I would rather see it go off topic than completely dead, it seems when people stop posting on a thread because there is nothing new about the original topic the thread dies, then when something new comes along, I can never find the new thread. Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it, nothing..

I did have a guy I thought was reasonably intelligent say to me after I mentioned I had to get my chickens out of a tree the other night, "How did they get up there"

I said" they flew"

He said, " chickens can't fly, everyone knows that"

He thought I was pulling his leg, so I said chickens and turkey can both fly, he said turkeys are too big to fly, "when I told him I had one 50 ft up in an old oak tree one evening he laughed at me, and offered to buy me another drink...

They're not the most graceful of flyers....

Do farm animals bring it back on topic? I jokingly told someone I was going to bring my goat Jameson into Homegoods as my canine companion and they looked at me like I had 3 heads and said "isn't he just gonna go crazy and ram everything and all the people?" .......little does she know I wish

I recently got into a discussion about eggs with two of my coworkers. I'd offered to bring them in some eggs from our flock since we'd already filled the incubator and our supply was starting to stack up. I was asked how we kept the fertilized ones separate from the ones we wanted to eat. I explained that they are all fertilized since our rooster has been "on the ball" with things. I was met with looks of astonishment. They didn't like the idea of eating fertile eggs and were concerned that they'd get a chick in the frying pan.

The next issue that made me chuckle was when it was suggested that I keep the rooster away from the hens for a while so that the eggs would be "normal" and ready to eat. Well that led to another coworker saying "Hens can't make eggs without a rooster, everyone knows that." To which I replied "You're making eggs right now and you don't have a boyfriend....." We all got a good laugh out of the entire deal and it was decided that they don't want any eggs since I can't ensure that one of them won't hatch in the refrigerator. *laugh*

Which is why most paper bags in grocery stores have been dyed brown. People think they're saving the environment. Undyed paper has specks in it, like whole wheat flour does. It's not uniform brown. Yeah, the markets have humanity figured out. They know what sells, and there's no law that says they can't make money off of people who don't know better, as long as they're not hurting anyone. BTW, anyone want to buy some Thanksgiving turkeys that were never raised on hormones? Only $1 extra per pound!!!

I am almost positive that the misconception comes from people perpetuating misinformation. Are you familiar with the paper industry? I have worked in the paper industry and my father is about to retire after 30 years at one of the largest paper mills on the west coast. I don't know if things are done differently in the east but I can tell you that brown paper grocery bags are not dyed brown. The flecks that you're referring to are from the composition of the pulp used to make the paper. Depending on the type of wood used and the consistency of the pulp, paper may or may not have the flecks in it. Paper bags and cardboard are the natural color of the wood pulp. In order to dye the paper brown or any other colors it first needs to be bleached white then dyed the intended color. If this was done it would add unnecessary time and cost to the bag making process. Why would the paper company go through all of that to trick the consumer into thinking they're helping the environment?
