Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I recently got into a discussion about eggs with two of my coworkers. I'd offered to bring them in some eggs from our flock since we'd already filled the incubator and our supply was starting to stack up. I was asked how we kept the fertilized ones separate from the ones we wanted to eat. I explained that they are all fertilized since our rooster has been "on the ball" with things. I was met with looks of astonishment. They didn't like the idea of eating fertile eggs and were concerned that they'd get a chick in the frying pan.

The next issue that made me chuckle was when it was suggested that I keep the rooster away from the hens for a while so that the eggs would be "normal" and ready to eat. Well that led to another coworker saying "Hens can't make eggs without a rooster, everyone knows that." To which I replied "You're making eggs right now and you don't have a boyfriend....." We all got a good laugh out of the entire deal and it was decided that they don't want any eggs since I can't ensure that one of them won't hatch in the refrigerator. *laugh*
I have gotten exactly five chicks in the frying pan and all of them came from store bought eggs. Yuck. I'm amazed at how many people think that there is no possible way to get fertile eggs from the store. The other week, I had the misfortune of needing more eggs than I had in stock so I had to buy some from the store. Out of habit, I looked for evidence of fertility, and low and behold one had a huge bullseye.

Wow! I'm one of the dumb ones that thought there weren't any roosters in with the hens in a commercial facility. Now I know.

Commercially sold eggs are collected daily - to have a "chick in the frying pan" you would not only have to have purchased fertilized eggs, but eggs that had been incubated for several days prior to collection, packaging and selling

There is a big difference between noticing evidence that an egg was fertilize and getting actual developing embryonic tissue....the latter being much more likely from a small, home flock type seller who may have discovered a hidden nest and been less than responsible by including those eggs in the ones packaged for sale.
While *some* commercial egg producers do sell eggs that come from birds that are kept more naturally (free ranging, flocks with mixed genders, etc) these are more commonly found through Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc-- and come with the price tag to go with it -- *most* commercial producers maintain caged, female only laying flocks....or "cage free" female only laying flocks. Commercial producers, frankly, have no use for male birds as they are nothing more than a mouth to feed that gives no return.

I wonder if they only have adult relations only when they want to have a baby? Because using their own logic that is the only reason to have adult relations (I am thinking that is their train of thought if one could only use fertilized eggs for chicks then the only thing that adult relations are used for is babies).
