Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Good rant! Well said...

I understand people not wanting to eat store bought meat because of how animals are treated in mass production facilities. I absolutely get that. Not eating meat altogether is a personal choice, and I couldn't care either way whether someone eats meat or not. What pushes my buttons are those that think YOU shouldn't eat meat, even when it comes from your own animals.
As with most things, there's a lack of balance.
I think we can be a part of nature and do as nature dictates while still respecting nature.
I love my chickens as much as I can allow myself to do so knowing as I do what they are ultimately for.
I give them a good life. Their happiness is a priority for me, THE priority. I think it is a good exchange to make that the priority for everything they give me.
My love for them, their treatment here before I harvest...I believe that is doing as nature dictates with an absolute respect.
Sorry...I am prone to ranting. :p
Amen. Just, amen :)

Harmony with Nature, Being thankful for their ultimate sacrifice for ensuring that I can relieve my burdens... I say my thanks over every beast brought home for consumption (mostly deer and wild turkey) but we do plan on expanding next year and adding meat birds. Like you, I will provide an excellent life for these birds. My BH (better half) is the hunter, so he will do the butchering... he is a taxidermist and makes me things from the skins, horns... and next year... skins and feathers... I cannot do the killing... I can't, but once the animal is dead, I can do a lot of the processing without difficulty. It's an "honor" thing for me, the processing is delicate work, nothing goes to waste, and I feel like they are a part of me through this process and consumption. for me, there is little in life that is more spiritual than having the ability to relieve my own life burdens, riding my Paso on an early misty morning, or communing with the chickens is pretty close though...

Thank you everybody. :D
Cheeka, our first kill, I made it a point that it be my hand. I felt it was my bird, I chose who would die, and so I ought to have the nerve to be the one that finished him.
....Of course, it didn't go well which I've talked about before, and my boyfriend ended up having to finish the job!!
Since then, I have been reluctant and have not participated in the actual killing, but I will force myself to do it again.....at some point. :p
I'd say if the other half is willing to do that part, let 'im!
Strangely, after the first bird, the sight of chicken wings has changed for me. They were always my favorite part before, now I avoid them. Not really sure what it was about the wings....

Hmmm....why DID the Chicken cross the road?

Well, where I came from with my ethnic background back East, they would probably say..."It (the chicken) saw two Brothas with a hot skillet with grease and some biscuits, and it kept on stepping." --BB

Sounds like the same people who say we shouldn't hunt, but instead should buy our meat in stores where no animals are hurt. Most Americans have gotten to far from understanding where food comes from. I miss the days when almost every family had a vegetable garden. Now if I could find a way to keep our chickens out of our garden....

Holy Cra*! $12,000?!?! My shipping is insured and costs $200 and i thought i paid to much!

The other day, upon entering our town, we posted a sign saying,
One California farmer feeds 200+ people, including YOU.

then two days later in the paper a article was written...

".....while roaming the petite little town we call Denair, I came across a sign stating that one calfornia farmer feeds 200+ people. I find that to be a complete lie. We do not rely on a smelly old farmer to feed us, thats what walmart and raleys is for. And to those who posted this particular sign, quit your fibbing and please buy real food like a normal human being."

i repled promtley telling them that if all of the worlds farmers quit farming wed all be left for dead either eating dirt or feasting on each other. 56 other replys were written, 99% of them i cant post on here.
