Oh my gosh, I know we're In California where the average IQ is 6, but still! That MUST have been a joke???. Please tell me that was written in jest or I shall lose all faith in my fellow man!

Wait... What faith? I lost that years ago!... Oh well, I like you guys enough ;)

Thank you everybody. :D
Cheeka, our first kill, I made it a point that it be my hand. I felt it was my bird, I chose who would die, and so I ought to have the nerve to be the one that finished him.
....Of course, it didn't go well which I've talked about before, and my boyfriend ended up having to finish the job!!
Since then, I have been reluctant and have not participated in the actual killing, but I will force myself to do it again.....at some point. :p
I'd say if the other half is willing to do that part, let 'im!
Strangely, after the first bird, the sight of chicken wings has changed for me. They were always my favorite part before, now I avoid them. Not really sure what it was about the wings....

In my area most children who want to learn to hunt are taught on small game rabbit squirrel or such so the "kill shot" has to be accurate if not it is usually very easily remedied.... Many adults are also taught the same but not always but it would make it easier in the long run.

I agree that diet is a personal choice: omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, whatever. But, a blanket statement that "meat isn't healthy" is just plain ignorant. SOME meat isn't healthy, like the toxic stuff they sell in wholesale stores and most groceries. But, if man hasn't messed with it by injecting it with hormones, or feeding it GMO corn, meat is a vital, healthy part of an omnivore diet. Large quantities of meat, to the near exclusion of most veggies, isn't healthy, either.

Humans were created to be omnivores. All cultures, except Hindu, eat meat. Even the aboriginal ones. It's instinctual, just as grass is instinctual for cows and horses. But, the problem with the American diet is that most people go overboard, whether for fast and easy food, sugar, carbs or meat. Corporate food in ALL forms, is the basis of their diets, and is centered around meat.

Meat is a healthy part of every diet if limited to healthy, naturally produced meat and eaten in moderation. Americans have made it the centerpiece of every meal, serving large slabs with few veggies, when in most other cultures it's eaten in much smaller portions or treated as a condiment when cooked with veggies. As usual, we've gotten it backwards. So, some react in an equally extreme manner by saying meat is unhealthy and shunning it all together.

Balance is needed, and moderation, as always, is the key. Avoid black or white thinking ... live in the gray.

Holy Cra*! $12,000?!?! My shipping is insured and costs $200 and i thought i paid to much! The other day, upon entering our town, we posted a sign saying, One California farmer feeds 200+ people, including YOU. then two days later in the paper a article was written... ".....while roaming the petite little town we call Denair, I came across a sign stating that one calfornia farmer feeds 200+ people. I find that to be a complete lie. We do not rely on a smelly old farmer to feed us, thats what walmart and raleys is for. And to those who posted this particular sign, quit your fibbing and please buy real food like a normal human being." i repled promtley telling them that if all of the worlds farmers quit farming wed all be left for dead either eating dirt or feasting on each other. 56 other replys were written, 99% of them i cant post on here.
Sounds like the same people who say we shouldn't hunt, but instead should buy our meat in stores where no animals are hurt. Most Americans have gotten to far from understanding where food comes from. I miss the days when almost every family had a vegetable garden. Now if I could find a way to keep our chickens out of our garden.... I know a girl that constantly turns up my fresh eggs and chicken, hamburger from my grandparent's steer, and meat from a 4-H hog. That's fine, she says she's a vegetarian and just plain doesn't like eggs. Whatever. But when she goes to McDonald's she'll gladly down a double bacon cheeseburger without a thought. She told me it's because she didn't really know the McDonald's animals, so that makes it "easier" for her. But that's exactly the point!!!!!! You know where the food I offered you comes from! You know they all had good lives! You don't even know what might be in that thing you call a "hamburger"!!!!!!!!!! It's backwards thinking. Some people can't even see past their own noses to see what they're doing.

Got this the other day... So I saw your chickens when I was over the other day I never knew you guys were amish.

Wow ignorant on so many different levels, I would assume you are an "English" (what Amish call us regular Americans) I want to show that person what Amish dress and customs are they would probably need a change of clothing from soiling themselves and throwing up over slaughtering day and such.....
