Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

These are all hilarious.

I have an old family friend who came by and noticed that we have chicks. He asked which one was the rooster and when I informed him that they were all female, he told me that I shouldn't expect to get eggs. I then asked him if he thought his wife needed him to ovulate. He said, "Well of course!"

No wonder why he's divorced.

Mind you, I live in Los Angeles and he was born and raised in rural Oklahoma.

Yea I tell him this and he is okay with it being in stuff as long as he does not know but I can not get him to eat them alone. I am hopping when mine start laying I might get him to reconsider. I don't think he realized how much stuff eggs are in.
I have a brownie recipe that used 5 eggs.

You might try quiches or Fritata's to ease him into eating the eggs.

Home made Angle food cake uses around 11 eggs whites, 2/3 cup.

If you have never made or eaten a home made angle food cake, make one with your own eggs. Amazing! The crumbs left in the pan taste like cotton candy.

That brownie recipe sounds heavenly and I bet the Angel food cake is just as good. I have an ice cream recipe that uses 9 egg yokes that he loves, but I will give the Fritata a try as soon as they start laying. I am planning on changing his mind on this issue.

Angel Food Cake III

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 45 Minutes

Ready In: 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Yields: 14 servings
"Classic angel food cake, light and tastes great by itself!"
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup cake flour
1 1/2 cups white sugar
12 egg whites

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt

DIRECTIONS:
1.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Be sure that your 10 inch tube pan is clean and dry. Any amount of oil or residue could deflate the egg whites. Sift together the flour, and 3/4 cup of the sugar, set aside.
2.

In a large bowl, whip the egg whites along with the vanilla, cream of tartar and salt, to medium stiff peaks. Gradually add the remaining sugar while continuing to whip to stiff peaks. When the egg white mixture has reached its maximum volume, fold in the sifted ingredients gradually, one third at a time. Do not over mix. Put the batter into the tube pan.
3.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, until the cake springs back when touched. Balance the tube pan upside down on the top of a bottle, to prevent decompression while cooling. When cool, run a knife around the edge of the pan and invert onto a plate.

The Ultimate Brownie is my absolute favorite brownie. It is tall like a cakey-brownie, but is dense like a fudgy-brownie. I'm sure it will be one of your favorite brownie recipes too.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Ingredients:

  • 8- 1 ounce squares of unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 pan. Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat or heat chocolate and butter at high power in non-metal bowl in microwave for 2 ½ minutes, stirring after 1 minute, then stir until melted and smooth.); set aside. In a mixer, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla at high speed for 10 minutes**. Blend in chocolate mixture, flour and salt until just mixed. Stir in the nuts. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes. (Don't over bake.) Cool and frost if desired, but that is not necessary.
Convection Oven: 325 for 30 Min.
** It's not required, but this is when it's very nice to own a stand mixer.
This is one of the best brownie recipes.

Have fun!

Thank you, Ron, for the recipes! That brownie is one of my favorites, although I substitute sucralose for the sugar as I am diabetic. The angel food cake one requires real sugar - it doesn't set up quite right for me when I use a substitute, so I can't have any of it, but it sure sounds great.

I love it that our chickens give us this wonderful and extremely versatile food.

I never liked eggs much - except in things - until I fried one of our own in butter. I can still remember how good it was. I hated the runnyness of eggs, so I fried it until the yolk set and now can't get enough (well, of course, there's enough: I have them fried up once a week so as not to get too much butter. Butter buds work, but aren't quite the same...)

Thank you, chickens everywhere.

Kate

Kitty F invite him to call animal control on your "rooster" I bet he'd won't have them out there anymore when they see a clean yard and shelter for the with clean food, and water and no rooster!!!!!

Or maybe she's just ignorant. You could try educating her or you could just let her be and share your eggs only with those who appreciate them. I took a 1/2 dozen with me yesterday to give to a friend with whom I had a lunch date - she was delighted and told me stories of the last fresh eggs she'd had which was a looong time ago. If my hens layed more eggs, I would be able to give everyone who really wants them even more. There are lots of people who really do want them.

Of course, there's always the dimwit in our neighborhood who decided we were "aliens" because we have a few chickens and only immigrants who don't know better keep chickens in their yards...(my immigrant forefathers were from Ireland 5 generations ago). He harassed my hubby (forefathers were immigrants from Mexico 3 generations ago) until I came out and told him to get a life and don't bother us any more unless he wants a taste of law enforcement.

Where I live, we're all immigrants or the descendants of immigrants unless we're Native Americans. But some people are just from outer space.

Oh, and he complained about our rooster. We don't have a rooster.

Kate

She is a very clean, overprotective mother and I personally believe she wouldn't want her kids to eat them. Oh well, I have a bunch pf people who want my eggs, so I'll just up give them to those people.
