Wow. Just, wow. How does he think human babies are made I wonder?
You swallow a watermellon seed, right?

I had a friend tell me once that he wouldn't eat my eggs because they are brown and blue?? He said eggs are supposed to be white so mine are weird???
He also said that the yolks are too golden??? I don't get it!

And I can't even imagine eating another store-bought egg ever again.

I've recently gotten the "Don't leave eggs on the counter because they will start growing!"
I've also been told that I must be an animal hoarder because I have 20 chickens and 3 ducks. *sigh* I tried to explain that half of those chickens would be in the freezer in a couple weeks and all 23 are allowed to free range on 6 acres. Plenty of room. Of course I wasn't believed.

Someone called me a hoarder once, too. I was like, ok, just how many chickens do YOU think is a sufficient number for adequate egg production? They were like, "Uh, I don't know--I really don't know anything about farming".

Some folks seem to think farming involves a couple of chickens and a milking cow and you're set. They really have no idea how much goes into the food we eat each day.

ah ha...thank you!! Funny thing, I am allergic to eggs....but I have 29 hens and 2 roosters...and am looking to add a few more hens and one more rooster by spring. Thing is, store eggs give me headaches, runny itchy nose and eyes, almost instantly after eating them but the eggs from my hens don't do this to me, at all, I have absolutely no allergic reaction to them. I don't know if its the age of the store eggs, or what they are feeding the hens, so needless to say I won't buy store eggs anymore. But it will be interesting to go to the store and look at the codes to see how old they are.
Had to reply to this one too... I am kind of in the same situation. I don't know if I would go so far as to say I'm allergic, but eggs never agreed with me. If I had scrambled eggs for breakfast, for example, my stomach would feel queasy and I'd have a bit of a headache. When we started raising our own eggs, though, I couldn't resist trying them myself, and was surprised to discover that not only did they taste amazing, but I had no reaction to them at all!

I don't know if it is the fact that our home-grown eggs are just such a higher nutritional content, or if it's the absence of medicated feed and antibiotics, or perhaps it's just that our chickens live in cleaner environments than those that produce the store-bought eggs. I do know it's a very real and significant difference, though, and I'm glad I'm not the only one that's experienced it.

they do have to give those poor hens a lot of antibiotics and other meds to keep them alive in those cramped conditions. I'm sure that's what causes reactions. I don't notice any reactions myself, I can eat store bought eggs, but I don't like to.
