One of my cockerels attacked me--He jumped at my fingers each time I reached down to open his cage door to feed him. He was scheduled for processing on Saturday but he needed to go. When I came home that Thursday night, I started the job. I was plucking the feathers when my 14 year old came in. I looked at her and said: "Dinner is going to be a bit late..." She made a loud sigh, turned around and went back up to her room.....I guess they don't eat caviar...
The general public is so out of touch with where their food comes from. Everything must be either on TV, or over processed on a grocery store shelf. Now, I admit I was born and raised a city person. But I had/have an open mind to trying different foods. I eat deer, and enjoy it. I raise chickens, and love their fertilized eggs. And, am learning to process them for the dinner table too.I enjoy a freshly caught fish, be it from the ocean or fresh water. I have bought fresh shrimp off of the boat, still kicking. And learned how to pop their little heads off before steaming. That, and quite a few other things.....is a long way from growing up in the midwest in a major city. As a kid, I knew buses, taxis, and Macy's...etc.![]()
