Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I never knew there were such strong feelings against brown eggs in the rest of the country! Here in the northeast, the white eggs are the "weird" ones :)
brown eggs are preferred here. No one I work with is interested in buying blue. I didn't ask about white because I wasn't looking at any of those breeds.

A woman my husband works with recently said, "I like the hens eggs just fine, I've never tried a rooster egg though."
Turns out, she thought girl chickens came from hen eggs and boy chickens came from rooster eggs.
Then just this week someone asked, "Don't female chickens turn to male if there aren't any around?"
These are fairly smart people, with important jobs...this worries me.
I think that it does occur with some species of fish, when the male dies the most senior female becomes male.

People have become completely divorced from food production.
Off to make him a tongue sandwich, it should be the best food available since it came from a mouth correct? at least using his logic...
Cold pressed ox tongue is delicious :D

Same here. I put a green egg in each carton and write a note about egg shell color on the carton. lol If a customer doesn't want them I just pack all brown. At home we consume all the green and white eggs ourselves. I have one customer that doesn't like the dark brown eggs!

dark brown is my favorite. I know it's all psychological. It reminds me of childhood and the ones my grandmother had. Hers were pretty dark comparatively, a nice medium brown, but now I ooh and aah over the Marans eggs. I will have some one day :)
I had never seen a blue or green chicken egg until I was an adult and they were from bantams, so I had to ask to figure out what the difference was. I also thought bantam was a breed for awhile because of how they explained it. I much prefer asking Google. Lol

Here's a bit of a funny.
A girl I know told me the egg color was determined by what they're fed, a common misconception. She was schooling me a bit bc I was talking about getting chickens for the first time. The thing that confused me was she'd been around chickens all her life.??? I don't know how you miss that. I asked her if she meant the shade or brown vs blue or green vs white. She said no, her grandma's eggs are brown bc all she feeds them is corn and corn is yellow...

Hens can actually change their sex. It happens very rarely and is usually happens after ovary damage. The now cockerel will never be fertile but will have a large comb, sickle feathers, pointed hackles and will even crow. I think that is where the misconception of a hen will change into a cockerel if there is none around comes from.

Next time, try reminding these picky egg color people that it's the same as being picky about which color of (holiday) candy kisses they eat. That'll really baffle them!

I only eat green!!!!

Ive had these conversations too. Its sad that our culture(s) arent more persistent in teaching where our food comes from.
