Every few years you hear of a congressman or senator wanting to have someone from the STATE of New Mexico thrown out of Washington because they aren't US citizens because they are from " (New) Mexico", yes our representatives in Washington don't know the difference between a state and a foreign country. I am somewhat ashamed to admit to reversing where some states actually are with their neighbors (like VT and RI) but at least I know they are sates and the general region of where they are.
I live in West Virginia. It's a constant problem. Lol

Unfortunately, that is where the idea of the "ugly American "came from. The few people who travel and are so bigoted they think all others must conform to their ideas. However, it isn't limited to Americans, there are bigoted people the world over. Sigh.
for real. we traveled allot when i was younger for funerals and weddings but it was mostly to new Mexico and Mexico we always stopped before spending money and had our American dollars exchanged for peso's etc when we went though. but i do remember seeing a highland park looking couple get thrown out of a restaurant in Juarez because they started a fight with the manger for him not accepting their money. though i wish things where saver over there i miss seeing my cousins

In my area we put NaCl on the roadways. it keeps them safe for travel during times when there is frozen H2O on the roads that is carelessly cast about in it's solid state.

Quote:My ex husband is the dumbest smart guy I've ever known and I'm about to share a really good example. He got straight A's in all his college courses, but we so dumb about most things, now my example. It snowed a lot one year and knocked out the power and I was like at least we have the wokdstove and he was like how will we flush the toilets and stuff with no water? Hey genius, see all that white stuff on the ground? If you bring it in and out it near or on top of the wood stove it will under go a chemical reaction and create water...

I assume you had well water or a cistern on an electric pump? because I have city water and it still works wither my lights are on or not, and my phone still works too if I use the regular one, not the cordless version (home phone that is, my cell phone still works if it charged).
a well with an electric pump. So no power, no water. Don't have a home phone. Only a cell phone so no worries there. But the fact that he could be so smart but not think about the fact that snow is water... have you faced no hardship ever? If everything collapses I will be fine. I've lived on the bottom all along. There are advantages of being (gulp) poor... I have no issue finding a way to survive through adversity.

it was so funny when i was little the water got turned off for a few weeks because my dad put the wrong bill in the wrong return envelope and we where using the water out of the water heater for cooking etc and my ma was like "but that water is dirty" and my dad said "but this is the water we used before it got shut off". i don't know where my ma thought the hot water came from, maybe hot water fairy's or something and she actually graduated high school and college (my dad dropped out of high school)

It seems like a lot of people assume any liquid storage or pipes in the house are dirty, but the sink is clean. As for why? No clue.
