Now this one is priceless....a college chemistry professor.....oh my...the peonies part, this is elementary school stuffWhen I asked my college chemistry professor (brilliant in many ways, but sorely lacking in some areas) if she'd like me to bring her some fresh eggs from my "girls", she asked me if I candlewicked myself or did I have someone else do it..... HUH???????????What I finally figured out was that she meant did I CANDLE the eggs to see if they were fertile. I explained that I had no roosters. She said she just couldn't eat an egg if it hadn't been candlewicked, because one time she had cracked open an egg and there had been a fully-developed chick foot in it.
I should not have been surprised, because the previous week she told me, with a great air of authority, that peonies would not bloom if one removed the ants from the buds because the ants pollinate the flowers, therefore they can't bloom out without ants.
My 5 year old grandson got to gather eggs for the first time after bringing the eggs from the coop to the house with no causalities, he helped me wash them to put them in the carton to be put in the refrigerator. Well of coarse he broke one. So I said new rule at grandma's house if you break an egg you have to eat it. And he says, You can eat them?
