dumor vs. layena vs. nutrena rations: Which do you prefer?

This is very interesting to read- I'm wondering now if anyone would like to compare Manna Pro feeds in there- I like them better than the Purina, and I've avoided Nutrena because the protein is rumored to be largely ground chicken feathers...

I'm wanting to have a feed mill make food for me, but need an alternative to the 'Hog44' for the protein boost, and they don't have fish meal or kelp.

Coz it's a cheap bi-product. Chickens pluck each others feathers for protein when they are deficient, so I don't see why it's a bad source to use in feed

I'm a pretty big fan of Purina Flock Raiser, coz I frequently have all ages of birds ranging together.

I'm not particularly brand or recipe conscience though. Last week TSC had some ripped bags of Purina Start n Grow on clearance, I picked out the heaviest one (felt like most of 50# to me) and got it for $7.50. The birds don't know the difference, and though I don't feel that it's necessary to feed medicated stuff, I still don't think a little Amprolium will hurt them, especially at that price.
Sometimes I skimp on them and get Dumor grower to save some $$, and because Flock Raiser doesn't come in pellets here, but recently the price has gone up so it's comperable to Layena, so what's the point?? Might as well go name brand at that price.
Sometimes I get our local Co-Op Gamebird Conditioner instead of Flock Raiser, it's a little cheaper, but the store has hours that often don't work for me so I can't always get it.

Basically, they eat whatever I feel like buying this week

My feed store here gets $17.99 for the flock raiser, and TSC, when I can get up to one, gets like $14.99 a bag! A big difference, I think. BUt you really don't mind the Nutrena? I wanted to try it, just to see if they like it, and that maybe switching from time to time, might be good.

I prefer nutrena simply because it has animal proteins. Layena and dumor do not have animal proteins and they would be more likely to pick at each other for extra protein. I would try each feed out first. Experiences differ from person to person and I bet your pretty confused right now

Manna pro I think is the best top of the line but they only come in five pound bags here. I plan on feeding it for the show birds.

Manno Pro does come in 5lbs. bags, even at the TSC too. I think I'm going to try the Nutrena, in a couple of weeks when we go up to see my brother in St. Cloud. There is a feed store there, that carries it! Thanks for the information!

Where I live, TSC has both Dumor and Purina feeds, and the local feed mill has it's own mix, in several protein percentages plus an organic alternative.
I bought a bag of Layeena last week as the last bag of Dumor grower/starter was finished. I don't see any real difference in how fast or slowly the crumbles are eaten, though they fill their crops with it when they leave the coop in the morning and just before they put themselves to bed at night. Maybe it's because they're pastured in meadow/woodlands and have a lot of bugs and greens to nibble?
Maybe the feed I provide them will matter more in the cold months here in Michigan when all their treats are buried in feet of snow.

I use Dumor 20% for all the silkies, chicks and adults. The Brahmas get 20% until they are laying age then they get Lay Mash from our local mill or Dumor Pellets.
