When the traveling vet comes out this weekend I will have him checked for a chip. If there is no chip I will let you know and maybe we can meet halfway. I will post pics of him later so you can see what he looks like. Steven has spent today with him with treats and brush and he really is a nice guy.

I'd call the Sheriff and the county animal control. It is not uncommon for people to steal dogs. Some years ago in Oregon I set a live trap to catch a Golden Retriever whose owner walked it without a lead and permitted it to defecate all over our yard. When the animal was trapped, the owner nearly assaulted me in his efforts to free the dog; when animal control came out, the owner began to express outrage over the trap and demand my arrest - but when the officer looked at the dog and examined it's mouth (apparently it had a tattoo) he blustered and rapidly departed since the dog wasn't his - he had stolen it out of a backyard because he thought the owner was "cruel" because the dog was left alone in a run with a house while she was at work.

A friend had a pet disappear; it was dumped in the countryside. It turned out that a neighbor against whom they had won a small claims case was responsible and all that saved her pet from euthanasia at the pound was a microchip.

ALWAYS CHECK WITH AUTHORITIES TO VERIFY THAT A DUMPED ANIMAL HAS NOT BEEN STOLEN!

I am grateful to both of you! I am glad little pup gets a good home. I hope he behaves around chickens and he has the best life and you have the best dog.

I never make assumptions, like I said the vet will be consulted. Dumping animals here is common,, actually putting them in someone's backyard is not. More than likely with all the unemployment here someone couldn't afford to feed the dog and like another person suggested, figured since I have so many animals one more mouth wouldn't matter.
Be assured I didn't enter someone's backyard and steal the dog!

We bathed and brushed him, got the stickers out of him, he's a good looking dog. He does have a couple of scars on his face, it looks like he's been bullied by older or larger dogs, he's afraid of my sweet little Heeler Bella, but is getting a little more friendly through the fence with Flyer, the BC. He cowers and just hopes you aren't there to hurt him but shows signs of a wonderful personality still,, so whomever had him didn't have time to completely ruin him. He's young and with love will be fine I'm sure. He needs A LOT of love and tlc, and has the huge heart to give it back. I'm not spending a lot of time with him, especially in the dark lol,, because I don't want to get attached or let him get attached to me. My mom on the other hand is taking him treats and visiting. He's in the big kennel in the back yard, it hasn't been in use since I lost the last Great Pyr,,

Wow, what a great dog - I am going to pray for him and for you because that is a great thing you are doing......................................
