Dumped Muscovies!!! **Update Pg2**

Rejoyce, it was your lucky day, a reward for a good heart. Those were probably some childs pets, but parents got tired of the mess. Happens all the time. A real problem with pets in the tractor store. In my day, it was freezer camp for those Leghorn roosters, but it took 4 to feed my family. Now, people just dump them, to fend for themselves. They do LOVE a pond, but they need feed in the winter. Thanks from all of us to you for the feed.

I think people tend to dump males more because they have too many that they can't get rid of or aren't willing or able to cull them. They look like pretty ducks that you got there.

At least at our lakes, all the ducks are fed regularly, it's just up to them if they want to get fed or not as they all know the time and place to get food. But, the weather is milder here, so they don't get as cold. However, there are predators galore that could get them, except I've rarely seen anything try to get anything as big as a Muscovy around here.

The one you think might be older could have just been more tramatized, might take a bit to come around. I also have 2 rescue scovie, one Mr. Muscovy has angel wing and can't fly, but he is wonderful, protects the girl chickens too, has decided that white bread treats are it, won't eat wheat bread or buns scraps either.

The other one is a little brown one, she isn't tame, but follows Mr. around. different rescue.

I love my scovies, my gray female is currently hatching chicken eggs and the silkie then takes with some force the chick from her. She isn't sitting on one duck egg. Poor baby.

Bleenie, Bless your heart! They're gorgeous ducks!! And big BIG boys!!! It just angers me so that someone would dump them. I have too many males as well but there's no way I'd ever dump them. Sheesh!!

Oh Bleenie! That brings tears to my eyes to think that someone would dump such sweet duckies to fend for themselves. I'm so thankful you rescued them. They are gorgeous!

Bleenie, Thanks for rescuing them. I am sure something would have caught them for a dinner since they were so tame. I just wish PPL. wouldn't be so stupid and realize that they are destroying something wonderful..Live animals aren't just like a toy truck you can just discard when you are finish playing with it.

They are settling in really well, a couple of the boys had to go through the "initiation dance" with my boy, Sidney, but the older-acting drake was not impressed with it all and went back to the swimming pools to relax!

The solid black boy is convinced that Lewis the Pilgrim Gander is "HIS Girl"

I chased them all over the field and finally caught the drake and put him back into a pen for now... he's a flier though so he went into the pen with a covered run!


On another AWESOME note!...
I stopped by the park again today and was able to talk to the Parks & Rec. guy that cares for the park & ALSO a F&W guy... they both gave me permission to adopt the domestics that i could catch & if anyone asked to let them know i was approved through them! I was so thankful to have run into them today, just since the other day someone has dumped FOUR new Blue Swedish ducks... it's just unreal to me.

We will have to build a new pen before we bring many home but I am worried about the swedish being so friendly and all.. the guys said that they had quite a few in the past that were hit by cars on the road that runs right next to the park

**I may need homes for some small, Call-sized, Black Bibbed ducks.... I am not sure if there will be a lot of interest in them over here so I am putting this out here just in case.**

That's great that you got permission to catch the domestic ones! I don't know if there's also a "friends of the lake" or "friends of the park" in that area like we do where I live who help care for some of the ducks. If you do, you might want to let them know what you're doing, too. I know where I live, people know a lot of the ducks as individuals and if one or two went missing, they would want to know what happened to them and might think they died or were caught by predators. If you let the community people know, then they might not worry. I'm sure they won't mind if you got permission by the people in charge of the park/lake from the city and fish and wildlife.

The only drawback is that I hope people won't think that it's "alright" to start dumping ducks there because they know you'll pick them up. You may have to set up your own duck rescue organization, lol.
