Live crickets and mealworms, yes. When I first got them, they didn’t know how to eat, so seeing something moving stimulated them to eat.

got it. Momma peahen's job. Which now unable to do because I have her eggs. But, pretty sure she being white would have been snatched on that hill. And neighbors have pit
bulls which get out now and again. Have already killed one chicken.

A word of caution about feeding anything other than chick starter to tiny chicks. If you are not providing a grit you run the risk of binding up the crop and gizzard and that can lead to death.

It's tragic when it happens. They are very vulnerable birds.
