Yea, I know what you mean. I get stuff from there from time to time just for color projects, and ofetn the colors arent even right. Got a buff OE roo that ended up being about 15 inches tall, definately not an OEGB!!
I assumed they would be like that on all their other breeds too. Using other breeds if fine to create new colors, but at least do more than 1 cross before you start selling them as pure to the breed....
That's why I was really hoping to find some nice breeder sold ducth for my work, that way , when the work was over, I'd have some nice ducth to play with too.

did you get them from ideal?

The two mixed I did. The others I got from a local at a Farmer's Market ... I've seen his adult birds and they're not bad. My LB is still coming into his colors, but I think he may be a bit slack on his saddle colors. Anyone know how old the roos are before they get their full colors?

Hey Aubrey...are bantam Pheonix recognized by the ABA or APA? I am totally intrigued by them (admittedly, intrigue usually leads me to trouble, in the form of having to build lots more breeder & grow-out pens...

Celtic Hill: I like those silvers! They look nice.

haha,
I know the feeling, I'm working on 20 more pens right now just for bantams, that's be 56 and still not enough.
Yes the are recognised in both standard and bantam in white, bb red, gold and silver duckwing

Can I solicit some opinions here? I have a chance to get a pair of self blue Dutchies (and possibly a few of their chicks) here locally, so I'd love some input on their relative (de)merits. The pics aren't great, but they're all I've got right now.

The male, as you can obviously see, looks like he's been the victim of a feather picker and has just gone through a molt (as per the owners). But I'm hoping if I get them in a run to themselves with a nice DE enhanced dust bath, some good vittles with some polyvisol, and just plenty of good ol' lovin', he'll feather back out nicely, but I know I'm taking a chance. The question is, is their color as good as I think it is (and thus worth risking a thinner tail), or do I just have a bad flare up of chicken fever going?

Spirit Dance...in my opinion the Self Blue dutch look good (except the roos tail) and they have blue legs which is key (I had someone try and sell me dutch with yellow legs). They both look good so if you are happy with the price I would say go for it.

As for my CLB and LB dutch eggs I cant wait for them all to start back up and I will post when my birds are ready. The rooster in the picture under my name is of my main CLB roo. I will have to take pics of My LB roos and of some of the hens. PLEASE NOTE that CLB and LB dutch HENS look almost identical. I will have to take a pic of one LB and one CLB so you all can see the difference.

Spirit Dance:
I would suggest that you contact Jean Robocker re: type quality of the selfblue birds. She is perhaps the person who is regarded as an authority on this breed and is Treasurer for the Dutch Bantam Club. Her e-mail address is [email protected]. Schweiger is probably correct (definitely as relates to leg color), but a second opinion from Jean is worth the effort IMO.

I think thats a good idea. I am not a judge and dont claim to be, and I am pretty new to dutch as well. They look to be good dutch but wether they are show quality is beyond me. I am looking into showing my dutch since they are from show stock but.... well all I can say is if the price is decent then they do look like nice dutch in my opinion.
