I don't think they look bad, but I also think contacting Jean would be a good idea. self-blue Dutch aren't too common & she would likely have more info than any of us here. Also, have you tried giving that little rooster a bath & blow-dry? I can't tell from the picture, but it might not be feather condition...he might just be...funky.

I had a little rooster that was the sole Dutch of one particular hatch, so I brooded/grew him out with a bunch of other breeds outside. He looked a mess when I finally separated him to get him in condition to show, but the look of his feathers was just cosmetic--a good bath fixed him right up. His tail looked much like that when I pulled him out of the pen, which is why I mention it.

First, thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the blues. I thought I had subscribed, but apparently it didn't go through and I didn't see the replies 'til now. Sorry I didn't acknowledge them sooner. I do appreciate your time and efforts in helping me.

Chicken Frenzie, to me she looks LB or BLB, although her hackles are brighter than this specimen:

Here's a blue light brown that looks more like your girl:

The only thing is the tail on your girl looks darker, but I can't tell if that's just the lighting or not. That's why I originally thought LB, but she definitely seems to have some blue to her saddle area. Whatever she is, she's gorgeous, and her expression says she knows it!

BTW, I bought the blues along with 4 of their chicks. The roo is drop dead gorgeous! He's feathering back in after his molt quite nicely, and he has the most refined eye and well balanced head I've seen in quite some time. The hen is nice as well, although her comb is not as defined as I'd like (last two points "fused" into a single with 2 tips). However, the oldest chick I bought is showing nice definition on its wee little comb already, so papa's comb shape definitely passes on to at least some of the offspring (anyone know what comb shapes are dominant?) I will post some more pics soon, once I get a break from all the nasty weather clean-up we're doing here in NE Texas (not used to quite so much white fluffy stuff

would anyone have some chicks for sale? I live in Michigan's UP - close to Wisconsin. I had Dutch several years ago and got out of them. I miss their personalities - they were such friendly little guys!! I don't have an incubator so eggs are out of the question.

Sorry, I'm terrible with abreviations. Would that be light brown and ??? Color really isn't a factor; i like their personnalities. Where are you located? Because I wouldn't to order chicks that are too far to drive and I don't want them sent in this weather. Let me know, ok?
