Dutch, son of Hawkeye, Future Flock Leader & Crew

I hope that Dutch carries on his father Hawkeyes legacy - what a beautiful bird! I am almost convinced I should have Barred Rocks again! Your birds are lovely

Thanks, all. Dutch should produce some beautiful babies with my pretty ladies I hatched from helmstead's flock. I just counted and Dutch and all the teens except the NHs and Nugget, the Buff Orp, who are week younger, will be 15 weeks old. And June, my Easter Egger, is 19 weeks old! Where did the time go??!

He definatley is a handsome boy. His barring is very nice. Now I feel a little better for you about the boy of Helmsteads that you let go

I hve 3 boys from Helmstead, but it looks like I am going to let them go to & just cut back to blue rocks only (and exhibition rouens.) Lifes just getting too hellacious with 2 young kids and all my dogs (showing and potentially breeding this fall.) Kristi

That's a handsome hunk of chicken there! You gotta love BRs, they're so classic-looking. I have a Hawkeye, named in hopes he would be a good protector for his flock and especially keep a sharp eye out for Hawks. He's an Ameraucana from MMH, and though he's been a tough leader for several years now, he's a real teddy bear in temperment towards his humans.

Kristi, I know what you mean. Sometimes you just have to change course in life to deal with things. At times, I think about giving up the Blue Orpingtons to make things easier, but I would miss Suede way too much. Barred Rocks will always be my first love, though. Sunny side up, I'd love to see a pic of your Hawkeye!

Yea I love the barreds. THey are my personal favs, and I have improved the ones I have in the short time I have had them, I feel. But, now I will be working to improve the blues as all the blues out there have blue legs (they are supposed to have yellow) so I will be keeping 4 of my barred girls to breed into my blue flock to improve them and attempt to make a showable blue bird with nice laying capabilities

So I am not giving up on chickens, just cutting back and not trying to have 1 of everything
