Dwarfism?long-term effects?

Ok I guess it’s not really dwarfing it more like making them smaller. They don’t grow as fast as the do in the spring or summer so it causes them to be smaller when they are grown. First I thought this was silly, then I had it happen to 3 of my hens I kept back that hatched in the winter months.
I think that was a coincidence. Sometimes you just get smaller birds. Not super small, just somewhat smaller.

I did fine what I was looking for. I’m not sure if this helps

🤔 maybe this only works in bantams?

No, not true. I'll have to prove this wrong next year for an experimental hatch. I'll have to let my parents know ahead of time, since they don't like the thought of late chicks.

Also, most of the time when I start hatching, there's still snow, or ice left over, & still pretty cold. So, I don't think there's a connection at all.

She doesn’t have dwarfism. Birds come in many shapes and sizes. The fox, though small, is no less hearty than the wolf. Many small dog breeds actually live longer than big ones. Bantams and small chickens are small very naturally, their genetics though doubtless some have the dwarfism gene.
Pretty hen, looks like you take care of her.

She’s probably just a runt.
