Dying baby silkie

Two of my silkies are sitting on 10 eggs combined. Yesterday one baby hatched, the mom quickly pulled it back under her. This morning it was dead. What is happening????

Maybe the mom stepped on it or another chicken messed with it. Maybe it was too cold for the chick and the mom didn't keep it warm enough.

Anytime that you have multiple hens sitting on a single clutch of eggs you run the increased risk of the hens quarreling and trampling chicks.

I have two baby chicks, one from my black silkie, the other from the buff colored one.the mothers are still sitting side by side on 7 eggs. I am thrilled!!!
