Dying Chicks-Please help

When we got four new chicks last year, one Paisley our standard white cochin was very lethargic and exhausted (they were shipped from Ohio, Meyer hatchery). Every 20min I would go out and alternate from feeding her sugar water, then normal water, sugar water, normal water, EVERY 20min. It was a hard job but in the end, she lived happily and just as active as the others! Today she is a lot of fun and we enjoy her. It's a lot of work, but it works and it saved Paisley

Not sure I'd mix all those and give at the same time.

Just for a day or two should do the trick...then back to plain water, see if they do OK.

I feel your pain but sometimes losses are almost not preventable on the end consumer's part at times....providing we do what we are supposed to do. I ordered from Meyers, 25 Welsummers and 15 black Australorps shipped Monday morning and arrived to me in Kansas Wed. I had 3 dead in transit and lost another 5 in the last 24 hours. I think a lot of times its a combination of things.......time in transit, temp, how they were handled, and then there are some chicks that are just runts and just do not do well and I would never purchase them if seen at the farm store but online its a gamble sometimes.

So 8 so far are dead, that's 20% of my order....at least your hatchery was concerned....mine, not so much. I sort expected it to be this way and to be honest if I end up with 1/2 of each making it to maturity I will count myself lucky....but that's just me. Hopefully I will hatch my own again next year like in the past, but had my birds wiped out last summer....so you start over.
