Yes, and it's what I suspected. I'd be wiling to bet that it had a yolk sac infection or enteritis. Sorry for your loss.

I just think of it as a very serious infection in the intestines, but I think your chick died from a you'll sac infection. To me it looks like the area around the umbilicus is inflamed and purple.

FYI, I recently lost two ducklings to this. Before you use your incubator again, make sure you do a thorough cleaning of it.
