Dying Pullet

I think it may be from frostbite. At least for humans, blistering can occur upon rewarming of areas with superficial frostbite.

There are some facts of life about chickens that us humans learn the hard way....... Chickens are MEAN critters, other chickens that get in their way are GOING to be bullied....... Young chickens are at the mercy of older chickens; older chickens do NOT know what mercy is.... Every chicken owner needs to take time to put their hands on their chickens once a month to check their body condition.....

Most of us learn about taking care of our chickens the hard way. None of us were born knowing how to care for chickens. Take good care of your pullet and don't beat yourself up over what happened.

She's doing so much better! :)

This was my first time raising chicks in the winter. Doubt I will do it again. I'm now making sure I feed her other two brothers separately.

Thank you all so much for the help! :weee

Try to hatch your baby chicks during spring. And try to have to different families of Rir to make your breedings and not use to much inbreeding. Little tip you Can cross them anyway you want but Not between brother and sister.( you can cross them between half brother and sister). By not using so much inbreeding will make your poultry more resistant to everything. Of course coming from healthy families. Good luck.!

Yep, sometimes people personify their birds and assign human qualities including compassion and caring. Bottom line is that chickens will kill each other directly or indirectly for the silliest little things.
