Hello Friends,

I got my quails last night!

They are 6 weeks old and coturnix Italian quails. Sadly we kept them outside last night without a heat lamp, and one of them is a little to small for that. She wasn't looking so great this morning and we have been feeding her through a small bottle and setting her in a inferred light hat. There's not much more we can do for her, but I thought I would post it one here.

I will also post some pictures of them later!

I agree with @Nabiki
I had a quail hen who had two chicks that she rejected when they were two and a half weeks old. When we noticed, one was dead and the other was almost dead, but we held her under heat for a few hours and she was fine. She's alive and well now.

Is she under heat now? What temperature does it go down to where you live?
Sadly she passed at 6:30 last night, we told a quail "guy" about it and he said that it probably wasn't the cold, we would've been able to save her if it was. We did put her under the heat, and even under special inferred light. She got all perky when we put a essential oil called "Digest zen" and even stood up with her head up! But she still didn't make it 😢 She was one of those white quails and apparently they are weeker, and she probably already had something wrong with her. I got 6 week old quails and she looked waaaay younger then the rest.

I'm so sorry for your loss :hugs

It probably wasn't just that she was cold. One of my hens hatched out 10 chicks, only 3 of them survived to adulthood. 2 of them were killed by rats, but the other 5 were died for 'no reason'. They were most likely weaker than the rest, because we tried reviving them under heat and that didn't help them. Unfortunately this is the sad reality of raising quails. The reason they hatch so many in the wild is because they have a high mortality rate. But that doesn't make it any less sad. I keep my quail as pets (they're all named), so I get very attached to them. I'm very sorry about your little quail.

Thanks for the support! :)

I keep mine as pets too. I have yet to name the only boy in the bunch, nothings really clicked. I don't know how anybody couldn't love those little faces. 😍 Thank you again for chiming in, I really appreciate the answers and the support. I will totally share some photos of the little chicks later.

This is the little one that died, she was so small compared to the others.

Quail are weird. I lost one this morning when I inadvertently put a feeder on top of one. I also had a 2 day late hatch that I broke open on a log and an embryo came out on the ground. It is now one of my biggest jumbos!

Oh no, I'm so sorry for your little quail :hugs
Quails are pretty funky, I totally agree. One of mine will just hop around in the hutch, it's hilarious to watch. At times they can be pretty unpredictable, but they are really fun to have around. (Or in this case, hopping around....)
