Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

Went into lockdown last night with my second set of 15 total: 2BCM, 4 Blue Sex Link, 1 Lavender Amerecauna, 3 Super Chocolate Egg Layers, and 5 Super Blue Egg Layers, all shipped from MPC. I started with 24 but pulled 9: 8 were clears and 1 was blood ring.

This time I am using my Brinsea 20 Octagon Advance to hatch out these girls/guys (I used my Yoosoo, (Janoel-10) for my last set and hatched 4 out of 6). I have a humidity pump too but am having the darndest time bringing up my humidity. I have both water trays filled, the humidity pump going, a sponge with water bowl, plus one of the Brinsea "cloths" and it's reading steady at 50%. I also have two tested hygrometers in there and they are also reading 50%. Anyone have experience with the Brinsea 20 and bringing up the humidity on it?

I'm in... I set a broody hen with some eggs on the 26th... 7 eggs.. I added 5 more on the 2nd of February.
I then set my little giant... hate it.. I've killed more chicks than hatched with it. I haven't had any last over 2 months... though it's not all incubator. .. hawks.. and accident on the last one.. I just knew she was going to make it too.. Anyway with 20 Eggs... the heat iis so hard to keep correct. .
I am currently trying to make another hen broody.. as back up.. and hopefully to raise them.. it was looking good today.. she actually set all day on them. .

Once I know she is broody, I'll transfer some hatching eggs to her.

Anywya.. thats where I'm at

I've been using a Brinsea humidity pump since July last year, and from your description I have to believe the pump is not delivering any water.

  1. The first thing I would do is check to make sure water is coming out the end of the hose. If there's a small wear hole in the hose it can prevent it from sucking water, or delivering it. Just hold the end of the hose that's in the bator and wait...when the pump spindle turns water should come out. If not, try and figure out which piece of hose has a hole, or check the other issues below.
  2. Be sure the hose in the pump is actually sitting below the water level.
  3. Check the hose is set correctly around the pump spindle. The side that is coming from the pump reservoir should be above the side leaving the spindle for the bator.
  4. Next be sure the top is closing on the bator, ensure you aren't losing humid air anywhere you wouldn't expect it to be lost.

I'm pretty sure you will find that one of the issues above is the cause of your problems. If not, then please try and take a picture of your set-up and post it here, perhaps I will see the issue.

Yesterday was day 10 for me, so I candled. 17 clears and 1 early death, giving me an 83% fertility rate, and so far, potentially 98.80% hatch rate. My weight loss profile has been staying very near ideal, it being 6.40% right now when ideal is 6.67%. Unlike my first hatch of the year, however, the weight loss has been consistently close to ideal rather than way up or way down.
