Problem after problem, lol.

Basically, I left my incubator at my dads and planned on taking the eggs to mums on day 17. I decided to put them in lockdown at dads instead. My room is like a green house at dads and even though the fan was on, windows open, blinds closed, it was pushing 30c for some reason. Possibly because of the heat wave yesterday? I get there and my poor little Janoel 12 is running 40c. I decided to bring them to mums as it’s cooler, only, as I sat with the egg carton on my lap, a raucous of cheeping comes from the egg carton and I notice two eggs have pipped. I didn’t panic but day 18 is just a little too early right? The eggs are a bit small for LF birds but I haven’t even had bantams hatch early. I candled them and it seems 2 are externally pipped (for sure!), 1 is internally pipped, another is alive but not int pipped and 3 look dead. I assume the heat killed them, I candled day 16 and all 7 were OK. Not too gutted though, as long as I get one girl!

So, obviously they had no extra humidity. I’ve never added any extra until lockdown as it’s always quite humid in Eng, but it’s been 50-60% these past few days. Do you think this hatch will need assistance? Also, the turner has still been running until about half an hour ago. Just wondering if you think they’ll be OK or should I be concerned?

Lots of cheeping coming from the incubator now. I added water and temp is stable.

I just had a bunch that hatched at Day 18. Five out of seven came out hale and hardy.

Sounds like you're already doing the best you can.

That’s good. It’s just the ‘abuse’ they’ve gone through as well, if you will, the heat, extra turning and no humidity.

Well, no progress yet. Heard faint cheeping but no more pips and no zips.

Just make sure you're temp and humidity are good....then wait. It's really about all you can do at this stage. Good luck with your hatch! :jumpy

There was a bit of a smell coming from the incubator and the first one had chipped away a hole big enough to see the shrink wrapped membrane through. I just decided to throw everything out the window and took the eggs out. 4 dead. 2 ext pipped. I helped the first one out, everything was absorbed, no blood or guts, he’s a happy little (unfortunately) cockerel. The other two are fluffing up and also slipped out with no issues. I assume the shrink wrapping happened when I took them out on Sunday.
