I read before I got my delawares that they tend to be early-maturing. Wonderful! So I have been waiting patiently since Feb. for them to be old enough to lay. They looked like this by the time they were 19wks:
Looked to me like they should be laying within a week or two. No little brown pullet eggs yet but I have gotten several beautiful bluish-green eggs from this girl who is the same age as the dellies:
I went out the run today with the intent of snapping some pictures to put up here and complain about my lack of eggs from birds who look like they should be laying. Like this one:
Or these two:
As I continued to despair, I realized I was missing a dellie. I opened up the door that leads to the nest box to see this:
No egg from her yet, but that did give me hope that it will be soon. With my other birds, they were laying well before they had comb and wattles that big and bright. These dellies are just making me wait to spite me I am sure. Here's hoping for a little brown pullet egg before the day is through!
