I will be planting my first ever herb/flower garden, the permaculture way....Everything else is planted outside or started in the house....
I figure planting my yard full of edibal trees, plants and bushes is one of the best things i could do for my family and the planet...Its not much but i do also recycle everything i can...

I am working on my yard as well. Our yard was the only one in the area stripped of trees,so I am replanting.I am planting things with fruits and nuts. I need to dig up more of my front yard too,but I keep putting that off since it is by hand. Tossing a lot into recycling. And helping to clean area lots by the kids school.

Well, I am in the middle of a 3 day journey from Canada to Sanibel Florida to deliver my daughter there. But back home, I have organized an all day event at one of the local banks ( who are very active in environmental health). It will feature the wildlife rehab centre that I work for. We are staffing an info booth from 10-6 and will be bringing our Red Tailed Hawk, our Barn Owl and our Harris Hawk. Trying to educate the public about the importance of caring for our wildlife especially today as we all share the same eco system. Really wish I could have been there but this trip was important and I am surprised to say I am enjoying it. The traffic is light, the roads are great and the scenery is beautiful. Especially here in Kentucky. I could live here.

Starting my compost bin made of recycled pallets!
Did you know 250 MILLION pallets end up in the land fill PER YEAR!

•Never underestimate the importance of recycling: if every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year. Unfortunately only 27% of all American newspapers are recycled.
•More than 20,000,000 Hershey's Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil. All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it.

Well, have started harvesting our potatoes and having garden fun.......

Happy Earth Day, everyone!

This year I've decided to plant a lot of herbs and perennial fruits and fruit shrubs and trees. I've doubled the size of my garden, too. There's plans for 2 compost bins (one for wood shaving from the chickens and one for other compost) in the plans. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do these things today, so I'm taking on a 'Earth Day is Everyday' approach to make myself feel better. Maybe I'll clear some space in the house and create a better area to encourage easier recycling. Maybe if I make the recycling bins easier to get at then the garbage, they'll get used more.

I love Earth Day! Its such a feel good about yourself day!

One thing I did plan on doing for today isn't all so earth friendly, but I planned to get together with another earth hugging friend I don't get to spend a lot of time with. Its nice to be around other people that share the same attitude about taking care of the earth. I don't know about the rest of you, but its so tiring having people giving you the roll their eyes and the big sigh in disgust whenever you want to be responsible. So, today is our day! Hugs to all the tree huggers out there!

My husband pulls apart the pallets and makes birdhouses out of the boards. We are always on the lookout for oak pallets.
They do not last forever, but that's the whole idea. It comes from the earth and then returns to the earth and had a useful existence in between.

We organize a neighborhood cleanup of our local saltwater cove/harbor. We pick up lost nets, shellfishing equipment and litter blown off recreational boats.
