Earthquake

Chickens, ducks and turkey could have cared less. The dogs were freaking out and barking as loud as they could.

We have some damage to drywall in our basement and all the pictures in our house are crooked now. We've had one other 'barking for no reason' episode about 1 1/2 hrs ago. Not sure if it was an aftershock or that they are just super excited now.
I grew up in California and have to say that this quake was pretty violent - as far as the amount of shaking. Of course we are only 45 miles from the epicenter so that might have something to do with it too.

Now I've got to go drag out the generator and get ready for Irene!

Mine were fine earlier, but they are not wanting to settle down this evening...Of course, my husband who works in Richmond felt an aftershock a little over an hour ago...I am in Benson, NC...we really felt it here too, but nothing like what my hubby felt...hmmm....

I work in downtown RVA, and I do NOT like to see lamposts swaying like weeds. They did not evacuate our building but I left along with a few hundred others. Friends in Powhatan said their dogs and chickens sounded off about a minute before. They lost a mirror. All is well here, brood hen still brooding. Thought this might shake her out of it:rolleyes:
Glad everyone is o.k. now for Irene. UGH

I know! (about Irene) I already told my DH that if the rain and wind get bad the girls and boy are going in the basement. I have had dreams before where our coop gets blown away and I have to go and search for my babies... lol I am ridiculous

You guys in CA were probably laughing at us East Coasters!

Much in the same way we laugh at people in warmer climates who freak out over a couple inches of snow.

Amazing how different things can be within the borders of one country.

We felt it up in VT, and it's very unusual for us to have earthquakes.

Now we too are looking towards more craziness this weekend! While we won't likely get the worst of the hurricane weather I'll still batten down the hatches to keep things from blowing away and prepare for some possible power outages.

We have too many darn trees around here and wind causes a lot of problems with downed power lines.
