I've never tried the broomstick method for chickens, but that was my go to way when I butchered rabbits. I would think chickens are even easier.
I use a cone for chickens, but those are ones I'm processing for freezer camp, and I let them bleed out over a bucket. Broomstick would be cleaner if I'm putting down a sick bird I have no intention of processing.
When I was a kid, my dad hung them by their feet and used the brush cutter/pruner. The barn cats loved the blood and heads on the ground. I prefer to avoid that joy.
There are more YouTube videos than you could possibly view on the subject. Watch several and see which ones you are most comfortable with. I saw one lady wrap the chicken in a towel and lay it upside down in her lap with its head hanging below her knees until it "fell asleep" and then cut its jugular. No drama. No flapping of wings.
