Easiest cull method

I've never tried the broomstick method for chickens, but that was my go to way when I butchered rabbits. I would think chickens are even easier.

I use a cone for chickens, but those are ones I'm processing for freezer camp, and I let them bleed out over a bucket. Broomstick would be cleaner if I'm putting down a sick bird I have no intention of processing.

When I was a kid, my dad hung them by their feet and used the brush cutter/pruner. The barn cats loved the blood and heads on the ground. I prefer to avoid that joy.

There are more YouTube videos than you could possibly view on the subject. Watch several and see which ones you are most comfortable with. I saw one lady wrap the chicken in a towel and lay it upside down in her lap with its head hanging below her knees until it "fell asleep" and then cut its jugular. No drama. No flapping of wings.

That would be nice, having the chicken fall asleep before having to do it. I'm really hoping none are boys. It sucks that they dont have the chance to be rehomed because the breeder was irresponsible.

If you are breeding to sell, you better make sure your animals are at least healthy. For that breeder to know their birds had a contagious disease, and to continue breeding and selling, should be considered a crime. Their actions could affect generations of future flocks. Time to bring back public flogging.

She may get in trouble, I'm not sure. I'm blasting her everywhere I see her selling. I dont believe she ships them. Ut if anyone here lives in west texas let me know and I'll tell you who she is. I will try my hardest that she doesnt do this to anyone else.

It's a shame that I dont even breed to sell but am now taking every security I can to keep my girls from infecting others. They no longer free range (their run is plenty big) and I'm making sure not even the little sparrows can get into the run.

I did that with someone here that was selling mg infected birds...didn't help much but the nice thing is they no longer even keep chickens. Ive also had someone give me a male orp....I couldnt see him but heard it wheezing in the car went to a friends house opened the box to see a very nasty sick rooster culled him then and there before bringing it home. So now I will not buy peoples chickens I will only get from a hatchery as people lie to sell their sick birds.

Loppers went terribly wrong for me i would not recommend.

What happened?
To be clear it was a duckling, about 5 weeks. Idk If ducks have stronger necks but it did not cut the head off. Instead it forced the lopers apart sideways. The loper blades are tall and strong in one dimention but thin side to side. So the blades bent out with the neck between the blades. I loped 3 times, still not dead so i loped again and twisted to break the neck. It was not a humane death in any fashion. I was very surprised it did not work. Pvc cutters are designed differently and may work. Photo so you can understand what I'm talking about.
