I have a free ranging rooster who hasn't gone in his coop in about a month because he is to hard to catch. The last time i got him in; i chased for about an hour. But tonight its going to snow hard and i chased for about 2 hours today and didn't even come close to catching him. So is there anything i can use or try to catch him? Also if he does stay out in the snow would that hurt him in a way?

I tried that already but when i begin trying to get it over he runs away.

where does he normally roost? Does he have any shelter at all that he likes to use?
I'd think that if he gets cold enough he'd want to go in. If not, once he gets a little frostbite on his feet he won't be so fast anymore

Well at night he usually sleeps on top of the coop but we moved are other chickens into the barn so they won't get cold. But now because of that he wont sit on the coop. And the only place he roosts is by our entry way to our house but he only does that when the other ones are there.

Is it going to do much *good* to catch him and put him indoors for the night if he will continue to be free-ranging? You can't do that every time it gets cold or snowy, and he will get warier too, and just start roosting higher or farther away.

Unless you're going to shut him in a run, it is not clear to me that there is a lot you can do about the situation, really?

Good luck,

Pat

Well in the winter were going to keep them in the barn but just trap them in there so they will get some space to run around in.
