In the Brooder
Very new at raising chickens. We hatched three eggs in March (from a local farm) and had 18 chicks shipped to us in June (Murray McMurray, and had a great experience using them). We currently have 10 hens and 3 roosters and the others, cockerels, were processed and are in the freezer.
We have a very colorful flock- a Buff Orpington cross hen that we hatched, 2 New Hampshires, 2 Bielefelders, 3 Cochins, 1 Salmon Faverolles and a little Ameraucana that more resembles the Araucana. Our lead rooster is an Ameraucana, then we have a gentle giant of a Black Cochin and a sweet Bielefelder rooster. Our little mixed flock gets lots of attention and they all get along so marvelously!
Chickens are fascinating animals. Both entertaining and useful. A rather therapeutic hobby.
I also enjoy gardening, hiking, photography and time spent with my grandchildren.
I learned about BYC while researching prior to starting our little flock.
