East RIver - South Dakota

I only had a pair, and I lost them both in the fire. I do have one chick from them:

I'm undecided yet what I'm going to do with her. There are some really nice Paints out there, I might pursue it yet.

LOOKING for Broilers

I am needing a whole heck of a lot of broilers for the next several months. Hoping there are some ppl out there in East River who have broilers they are willing to sell asap & for the next few months. I'm especially looking for birds that aren't the hyped up corning cross that looks like it was put on steroids. But even those may have to do for the short run.

Please contact via the message system if you have birds. Thanks

What is your guys experience with wild cats and free roaming chickens? I have a couple roosters I'm thinking of getting rid of but yet want to keep them hoping this spring I can let my then 1 year old flock out in our yard a little. We have a pet rabbit that dug out and has been running around for 6 months now and I have watched 7 of the cats have it cornered & still couldn't catch it! Hoping they wouldn't mess with the chickens too much?

I don't have wild cats but we do have 3 farm cats who hunt rabbits, bird, and mice like they are standing still. They only play with the chickens, they seem to get pleasure out of working the hens into a tizzy. I have never seen my rooster take after any of them so I don't know if it is just a mutual respect thing or if the rooster helps. I think it may be of similar to our dog who doesn't chase our cats but kills ones that stray to our place.

If i were in your situation I would lock the roosters away for a couple days while you can keep close watch and see how it goes.
