East RIver - South Dakota

I usually clean my coop twice a year. Fall and spring. I use pine bedding.

I have heard conflicting views on the dog dish as well. Many are about fire but I set mine on a old metal grill grate that sets atop a 2x4 frame out in the run and haven't had a problem. I did have a rooster frostbite his wattles from wetting them when drinking but now have only a bearded boy so hopefully it won't be an issue this year.

I don't have any roos, but I have a hen who always gets her whole face wet so I am kind of concered about the frostbite for her too.
For the summer I've kept a thin layer of shavings in the coop and run and kind of scooped it all like a cat box every day and just added shavings when they are about gone. I have a poop board under their roost so it hasn't been too bad, but of course thats not very practical for winter, for me or them.

Well we found some girls finally!!! We get them in a couple weeks. Now I just have to get all my supplies together. We're starting out as newbies so we have some shopping to do this weekend. The coop should be done very soon as long as it stops raining. We've been super busy lately with wedding plans for October so we have been sleeping well at night. I'm so excited to get my girls!!!! I feel like a new mom again. Lol
