East RIver - South Dakota

I know how you feel too! For me it's always the best looking pullet who's been laying for under a month. So sad and disappointing when that happens. Sorry for your loss.

Finally got signed back in. We got some girls this fall and things are going well. Haven't gotten any eggs in awhile but that's okay. Winter is stressful in me too lol

Do any of you show your chickens? My daughter showed two of mine for 4-H last year and wants to do it again. I really only have one SLW hen that is show quality and my 10 year old is obsessed with Silkies since she saw a pair at the fair last year. If anyone knows where I can find one or two this Spring I would have a happy little girl.

Ugh this cold! We were in the 40's all week and now it's 10 below. Yuck!!!

Well I caught the dog in action today!

Unfortunately I did not have my duty weapon on! I was able to track the feathers to the dog owner.

Aside from criminal charges I need to figure out what restitution should be.

KILLED

1 Crested Swedish Flower Hen Rooster
1 Non-crested Swedish Flower Hen Rooster
1 Golden Laced Wyandotte Hen - Part of breeding trio
1 Rhode Island Red Hen

WOUNDED

2 Rhode Island Red Hens
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte Hen
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte/Barred Rock Cross
1 Golden Laced Wyandote Rooster

Kinda shocked that was all that was done as the dog got in the coop! Feathers and blood all over. Looked like a poultry horror movie scene.

We had that happen too, dogs are horrible with "sport killing" Neighbor paid for my replacements but all I could get was chicks so had to wait for them to mature all over again

Oh my gosh!  That's awful!  Sorry to hear that.  Were you able to confront the owner and call the police?

I was able to track the dog back to the owner. Where I found one of the dead birds in the yard.

I did call the police... And better. I am a Deputy Sheriff. The owner gave full cooperation when I pulled up in my patrol vehicle.

Restitution will be paid but I can never find adults locally and its a 3 hour drive one way to get chicks. Which doesn't help with breeding. I'm calming down finally.

Thanks for the support.

Where do you get chicks from? Just curious as I am looking for outlets for ducklings too.
