I just rescued a 3 or 4 week old duck somebody dumped to fend for itself. It's a pekin and the poor thing was hungary and scared on the pond he was in. My neighbor called me this morning to see if one of my ducks had got out because she knows I have some. I told her no and she told me that there was a duck in the pond. I couldn't go get it then because I was about to leave so she put out some food and a dog crate for it if it wanted it. When I got home it hadn't eaten and I managed to catch it with a net. I put him in a cage next to my 6 week old ducks and he seemed happy and wants to be with the big ducks and they want to be with him. He ate all the food I gave him. One of his legs is kind of turned in and weak looking. Probably from an improper diet. I'm going to give him some brewers yeast and hopefully he won't be crippled. I hope it's a girl bit it's voice is still peeps.
It makes me mad people just don't understand that all ducks can't fend for themselves. He is still half down and has itty bitty wings. I'm glad I got him. He is actually really sweet and not very skittish, I'll post pictures of him and his legs later.

awe that was very nice of you. i don't understand why people just dump ducks. ducks are a lot of fun and they are missing out!! good for you for taking in the duckie!!

Write a letter to your local newspaper telling what happens to domesticated baby ducks in the wild. Tell them about the Easter dumping and your rescue. Also tell them that ducks are messy and can be overwhelming in no time. Send them a photo. Many papers have email so you can do all of that electronically. This may raise awareness and others may think twice about this.

good for you ive bein going down to my local pond and making sure theres no domestic ducks down there . i dont see why people buy them if there not gonna take care of them.

Well I didn't get to get those pictures today but will try in the morning. It really is a sweet little duck, hardly runs and doesn't mind a bit if you hold it. I feel sorry for the little kid who doesn't have him anymore.
Any good ideas for a name? My brothers want to call him Aflack but it seems to typical for a white duck.
His voice is really soft and almost a squeak not a peep like my other ducklings were. Wonder if there is something wrong with his vocal cords?

bless his little heart! i just don't get people... how about Lucky? as in he is lucky to have you?

Thank you for taking him in.

There's another thread on here that someone saw a woman dropping off her 2 ducklings at a random pond, only to be eaten by soft shelled turtles!!!

People need to know when getting these little babies, they are forever, not to be dumped to fend for themselves! Good for you!!

Or Murphy.

"Easter" chicks and ducklings are a set up for cruelty to animals, it's a barbaric practise and I'm horrified it still goes on. Ducklings and chicks are "disposable" creatures I guess
