Easter Egger chick colors?

My Sunshine has the white with some deeper red, assuming that is due to his Dad, plus the fact he is a too. I love his coloring! He looked just like Sophia when he was little!

Thanks! My Angel Cake ( All my EE's have food names) has most of her head feathers already and it's still white. I think she may be the friendliest of my bunch :) I walk in the room and she tries to get my attention lol.

So does my Sophia! Tiana on the other hand is very skittish and prefers to be left alone.

Thanks everybody for the replies!!

I haven't got any chicks yet. I am not quite sure what I will be doing now. I just lost a Wyandotte hen, and now all my remaining girls are solid black. I had a hard time introducing the Wyandotte to the group, as I believe they picked on her because she was a different color. The other hen introduced at the same time was black (originally was supposed to be another Wyandotte too, but the order wasn't right) and never had a problem.

So I'm hesitant to add any other light colored girls to my flock....I'm just not sure what to do.

I've never had chickens before and I just got my first ones (4 easter eggers: Pepper, Ginger, Rosemary and Sage) last week. Loving those little girls! I have also wondered the same thing about what their big-girl feathers will look like. I found this website where someone showed what each color chick grew up to look like. I'm not sure if this will hold true or not for every chick though. Here's the link if you want to check it out. (there are 4 different groups of chicks: you can click on the different groups at the top of the page)

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Wyandotte. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

I know everyone is not a fan of the "chipmunk" colors of their EE's, but I love them! Here in the Pacific NW I think they stand a better chance of evading the hawks here because of their coloring. We have a corner of the yard that is woodsy and natural, and they all run there to hide out if something predatory flies over... I can hardly see them! (except for the Barred Rock) The crows are our best friends for warning of hawks... they hate them and alarm when they or other predators are around. Just a thought!

You can usually see a beard or muffs as a new chick.

There used to be a thread here somewhere where folks posted pics of the chicks and then the adult plumage, not sure where it is now. Don't know how much help it will be, I've also had chicks that looked very similar turn out pretty different. I think you'd be able to tell grey/black from red/gold, though. My only thought is, lots of black and white EEs are roosters

That was a question I had too. I got an EE yesterday and she doesn't look like she has much of a muff, right now. I really think those are so cute, especially when they are chicks. So, she might not have one, since she doesn't seem to have one now. I'll try to post a picture.

Hey everybody!

None of my ranch stores decided to carry EE chicks this year. :( So I decided to order a few 4 week old chicks from a hatchery. I'll be getting 2 Jersey Giants, and 2 EEs in a couple of weeks. Don't know what color they will be, as it will be the luck of the draw from the hatchery.

I also gave up the idea of picking out a black/white EE. I know many people claim they turn out to be boys, but I've found lots of photos of hens with that coloring too. But there didn't seem to be any way for sure to tell at a young age.

I was also very naughty, and when I was at a ranch store, I picked up 3 chicks from their mixed bantam bin. Two of the chicks I believe are bantam cochins, but the third I'm thinking is a bantam EE. She has the cutest muff already!

I agree!! Our adult EE was brown like that as a baby and I used to refer to her as "Cherrie Bear," because with her little muff she looked like a teddy bear.

My little Angel Food Cake, Angel for short :) I go in the coop and she hops up on my arm while I'm trying to refill food lol.

She's dirty here but is still solid white at 10 weeks old!
