Easter Egger chicks 8 weeks old- pullets?

While they may not have the appearance of the "traditional" Easter egger,(green legs, beard) it is important to note that there is actually no set of characteristics that are specific to birds that are Easter eggers. East eggers can be derived from many different genetic crossings and so there is no set of characteristics that 1 should or should not have. Nor is there any way to tell whether or not these are in fact Easter Eggers until they lay. Interestingly enough AC could very well be used in an Easter egg or crossing....melanistic crosses are gaining popularity with out crosses being made to have mechanized birds producing various egg colors, appearances, etc
What are your thoughts pullets or cockerels?

Here are 2 pics of their tail feathers. Seems like they are a bit different to me, but with mixed breeds I’m guessing that can happen.

Ayam Cemanis are still very popular- and sell for more than EE's

Although they might not be what you hoped for, or pure Ayam Cimani, I wouldn't discount them yet. Personally I think they are beautiful. Just to let you know in regards to Ayam Cimani, I just paid $150 for a 3.5 moth old pair that where originally priced at $100/ea. If you go to GFF I think they are $299-399. That's my cockerel in my avatar. He still needs a name...

Here even the culls with horrible red leakage are going for $40+. There's also guy who sells and advertises AC crosses and pulls a few more dollars per bird than his regular birds just because it's got AC in them. They are not even black feathered either.

This is my hen with and w/o flash. I'm not an authority on AC's, but to me, Raven and Olive look a lot like her.
A funny tidbit, my hen is 3/4 Raven bloodline. I found this thread searching for AC's, so when I saw the big word "Raven" I eyes shot open. "oh, it's her name. Gotcha!"

That being said, colored eggs are pretty cool. EE's are a strong consideration for our next batch of chickens.

Lol! Thanks! I do like them, they have quirky personalities, but feeling deceived is never a good feeling. Plus AC’s are not the best layers from what I’ve read and that is why I got chickens. Last time around I got my chicks from tractor supply and ended up with 2 silkies by accident from a mislabeled bin, they rarely lay. I recently lost my 4 good layers and replaced them with these. We will see what they grow up to be. I don’t have any plans on getting rid of them unless one is a cockerel. Then I will have to decide which one I want to keep since it appears the Orpington I got is a cockerel:( Your babies are beautiful! Congrats on them!

PS The cockerel looks like a little old man, so cute! He looks like a Winston to me! Lol

I totally understand and would likely be upset too. Your right about the AC egg production too. Hopefully for your circumstances, it's not an AC cross. Another possibility it could be is a Svart Hona aka Black Swedish Hen cross. Or as others have pointed out, it could just actually be an EE as there are no real standards. I'm rooting for blue or green eggs for you. Blue eggs are so pretty!

I like the name Winston too by the way. I'll ask him and see what he thinks. ;)

That just reminded me. We also have ducks, and my oldest Pekin drake has this very raspy and gusty sound he makes. It reminds me of an old man trying to breath through a paper bag. I got out voted, but I wanted to name him Guss. Just sounded like an older mans name. :D

I used to have a dog named Gus! He was a Bernese mountain dog. I have another one now and he is Floyd! Great minds think alike!

I love Bernese Mountain dogs by the way. :D Great choice!
I'd imagine they make great flock guardians.
I really wish I could say yes! Unfortunately, the Berner and St. Bernard are the reason I lost my last 4 chickens:he They are wanted for chicken murder:( I didn’t latch the coop properly and they got out when I wasn’t watching. Walked out later to a crime scene.
