EEs can lay brown eggs as well... I guess because they are mixed ..I will update! This is my second batch. Unfortunately I lost 4 of my last 6I thought I was doing better this time around and did my research. Still ended up misinformed, but that is what a grief purchase will do to you. I am disappointed, but I still like the little buggers no matter what they are! As long as they produce decent eggs I am happy, but I was really looking forward to the colored eggs.
More like because there's no standards or rules as to what constitutes an EE and as long as it has a blue egg gene somewhere in there it counts. I also think half of the "EE" people have that lay brown eggs aren't even ee, just muttsEEs can lay brown eggs as well... I guess because they are mixed ..

Right but they're mutts with specific Chilean heritage. What I meant was there are some people who throw the label EE around a little too liberallyBut isn’t that what EEs are... mutts...?
@BY Bob has EEs that lay brown... I have three new ones coming up.. can’t wait to see what they lay.. I have one that lays a green/clay color..

Right because EE just means some kind of Ameraucana/Araucana (/cream legbar but that's really just Araucana once removed) crossbred mutt. It could have anything in it and with no standards of how much blue egg layer heritage it needs. It could very easily be a brown layer and an EE. I was simply saying I think that part of the problem is sometimes people call any mutt an EE whether it is or not. I've seen people on Facebook swear something was an egger because it had a beard when it was a Barbu d'uccle and I've seen people swear a CCL cross wasn't an EE because it "didn't look like one" whatever that means. Then you get some people who get very hostile about their "Americana" chickens. It's a whole lot of mess and misinformation.I must admit that my "mutts" EEs lay brown eggs. There is no standard for EEs and hatcheries will not tell you what their "mix" is. Some have rose combs, some straight, some even have extra toes!
