Easter Egger club!

At what age do EE's usually molt for the first time? Mine are only 12wks, and I've been noticing a lot more feathers in the coop and around the run. Plus they have new downy feathers coming in. Is this considered a molting? Or are they just getting more big girl feathers? lol

Joining the club! My girl, Archaeopteryx (Teryx for short) who LOVES dirtbathing, runs like a velociraptor, and is far too clever for her own good.

Aaaaaaand today she lay her first egg! (Stinker should have been laying a month or two ago!)

She's making up for lost time though, since it's 51 grams and my Black Australorp started with 40g. eggs and only now after a few weeks laying has gotten up to 50! Teryx is smaller than her too.

Has anyone's hens stop stopped laying already? I am trying to figure out why mine stopped. I have never had chickens over winter. Had three EE's then two were killed by a red tail hawk. Now I have one ee, one black Australorp and a Rhode Island Red. I moved the coop to what I had intended all along and that's putting it on 4x4 stilts. I am afraid all of the ventilation is a bad thing for the cold nights... Any advice is appreciated and even tho only 1/3 of my flock is ee I am going to stay in the club :)

It's pretty much a big sand box floor

Something I am happy I added was an 'egg door' it makes for easy access

Love my birds!!!

Just wish I was still getting eggs...

Days are getting shorter and you will get few eggs.A lamp timer and light will keep them laying.Try for 14 hours total light.Natural plus artificial.

I recently got two Easter Eggers this year as chicks from a Tractor Supply in March. They are producing lovely eggs and very comical to watch.

Turkey-Talker (so named because of the turkey-like noises she makes)
About 7 months old
She is the tamest and smaller of the two and lays olive-green eggs.

Gryphon
About 7 months old
Gryphon is a little more timid, but sometimes comes up to me to investigate. She lays bright bluish-green eggs.

Ok I have a question. I was told when I ordered my EE's as chicks that they should start laying at between 18-20wks. But most of what I'm reading in here, some aren't laying til well after 24wks...But then I was also reading that hatchery chicks tend to lay earlier. So I guess my question is, for those of you with girls that didn't start laying til 24wks or later, were these hatchery girls or farm girls?
