Easter Egger club!

I don't currently have any blue layers... just shades of green. :/ That sounds like a great idea when I have my blue layer though. I can keep one that is crossed with a brown layer and have blue, brown, white, and olive eggers that I have bred! There's just something extra special about ones you wish for, hope for, plan for, and finally hatch!

hearing every one hatching their own eggs makes me want to do that, but I probably would mess it up, I keep telling myslef to just stick with buying my chicks.

Here is one of the hens. The other two look very similar to her, but a darker shade of brown with gold.

Here is the cock. We are working toward blue eggs since he is a white egg breed.

That is the coolest mohawk ever!

Well my broody went nuts last night. I was walking the dog and there was a huge racket in the nest box. I looked in and she was doing this "dance" like a rooster challenging and she was pecking the eggs. I took her off the nest to see if she'd chill out, but she went right back and started pecking the eggs and the sides of the nest box. I quickly harvested eggs in my coat pockets. Weird, right?

Well I rigged up a quick incubator with an old aquarium, light and dish of water. It's got a foam insulated top. It took an hour and a half to get the temp to around 100° (the thermometer is a cheap one I stole from the coop). I hope they didn't cool too much. I guess we'll find out in 13 days.
good luck with you hatch, hope it works.

19 EE babies!!
would love to have that many EE's, but we already have to build an addition to our coop this spring and build a Cochin house, so dont see a EE house happening right now... but I can dream. Love those EE's

We won't keep them all. Probably only 2-3. The others will all be sold. I love them enough to know my limits on the number I can keep :D A lady I know doesn't understand that you can't keep them all, and she constantly has two incubators full and running. She keeps 90% of what she hatches and then can't figure out why her birds keep dying. Well..... you've got them too crowded and they need fresh air !:smack

There was a very scary situation in the brooder tonight. I brought in some fresh wheat straw and when I put it in the brooder, there was a very scary monster in there! There were screams of distress, warning calls, and young cockerels on the attack. The horrid intruder was finally subdued after about 15 minutes and found to be..... an oak leaf!!

That's hilarious. My guys never freak out unless my black housed cat wanders by. They think she's a skunk. The orange or white cats are fine but not the black one.
