Easter Egger club!

I am breeding for project blue Australorps and keeping the best laying "culls" that I don't sell for eating egg layers and for selling utility hatching eggs locally. I live withing walking distance of a new farmer's market. I can't technically sell eggs there but if people know I'm nearby they can stop by after they go to the farmer's market to buy eggs from me.

So, I have bought my first Easter Egger pullets to provide a colorful egg selection. Very excited! I have 4 sweet girls (and one mean Easter Egger pullet I have named Ursula). In addition, I have 3 Olive Egger pullet chicks and 2 Isbar chicks. I am fairly certain the Isbars are pullets but can't be certain yet since they are not auto-sexing.

And then I have my lone Olive Egger cockerel. Not sure if I can call him an Olive Egger since he won't be laying any eggs. He is a Marans/Isbar cross. Is there any way to predict the color of eggs his female offspring might produce?

Well, the honeymoon is over. My EE roo crowed at 5am this morning. It was his first squawky cock a doodle, but now I need to get that rooster night-box made and fast! One crowing rooster in the house I could deal with. Two is going to be too much for everyone, I just know it.

My rooster always crows in the early morning and I never wake up. I'm glad I'm a heavy sleeper :D but I know how it feels. when I hatch chicks I always have to get up around 5:00 to 6:00 that's the Only time I wake up that early. Is like my babies need me :D . The funny part is that I'm the only one that wakes up for them  my sister wants to raise her own from what I hatch but what she doesn't realize she has to wake up so early!! She doesn't like waking up so early. there's a lot of harsh "Complaining " When she woken up before 7:00.

Quote: I usually wake up once then fall back asleep, but my mother wakes up. For her favorite rooster, she doesn't mind too much. The real issue is that I live in a urban neighborhood and two of my neighbors are complete jerks about the roosters even though the rest of the neighborhood loves them, and they are our sweet pets.

Our 4 week old EE chick. I call him Hawkeye

We have a pullet named Hawkeye! I'm not sure if she will be an Easter Egger since she didn't get the pea comb from her momma. We are expecting tinted eggs from her. When she was a chick we thought she was a he.

Bunny and transe were April chicks from 2014. They are both Easter eggers or americaunas. Transe got her name early on, she kept giving me the stink eye look and she's grown up to be a sweet hen! Bunny is shy but get a load of the huge eggs she produces! Both are great laying hens, they are still laying daily even with short days and 32 degree f temps at night! I must say, next to my production reds, these are my favorites!
