Easter Egger club!

Thank you. If I wanted to purchase some is that what I would call them? "Easter eggers"
Most Easter Eggers are actually sold by hatcheries as Ameraucana, Araucana, or Americauna (a deliberate misspelling to dupe uninformed buyers); but are not really the breeds they are being sold as. No hatchery in North America has true Araucana. And only two hatcheries have true Ameraucana, Meyer and MyPetChicken, and they only have Blue/Black/Splash.

I'm beyond ecstatic! I got my first chicken Sep. 2014 and it turned out to be a rooster. So we got it a mini flock of friends and sadly all but one survived and she was our sweet Easter Egger. We have waited soo patiently and after 10 months she laid her first egg!!!!!!!!! It's a pretty light blue with a tint of green! I'm sooo happy! But now I'm wondering...do I need to refrigerate it? I'm almost scared to eat it lol.

Freshly laid eggs do not need to be refrigerated unless you wash it. It's laid with a protective coating surrounding it, to keep bacteria out, called bloom. If you wash it, you remove that bloom, and expose the egg to potential contamination, hence the need to keep washed eggs refrigerated.

We leave our unwashed eggs on the counter in a ceramic holder that is rotated by freshness they stay there till used. If an egg is particularly gross (poop or tons of mud) I wash it and put it in the fridge and use it first. We have 7 hens and don't use all that many eggs so I give some away fresh to friends that know my no refrigeration method and are ok with it to make sure we use them up in a month or so. If I am ever not sure if an egg is still good I do the float test. put the egg in a bowl of water that is filled higher than the egg itself....if it lays on the bottom it is a week old, if one end tips up it is not as fresh but still perfectly edible, if it floats throw it away and don't eat it.
In your case eat the egg! I fried my first one and had it on toast.

I've had eggs sit on the counter for 4-5 weeks and still be perfectly fine. Enjoy that egg!

In addition to Meyer and MyPetChicken, California Hatchery also sells true Ameraucanas (Blue) as well as Easter Eggers and identifies them separately. Their Blue Ameraucana is listed at $27.99 each while the EEs are listed at $6.99 each. I've never ordered from any hatchery directly so can't vouch for quality but California Hatchery is a hatchery that truthfully has Ameraucana listed separately from EEs and they offer as few as 3 chicks that can be ordered/shipped.

I am sorry I don't own any EE's but I hope you will except me into the club anyway? I need some other people who luv Easter Eggers! I hope to get some soon!
