Easter Egger club!

No such breed as Americana.
True, but i have noticed that feed stores sometimes sell impure Ameraucana's as "Americana" when they are just Easter Egger because they like to fool those who don't know better and want the pure Ameraucana. I have a feed store bought "Americana" but i was also looking for an EE so it's just as well for me. You are always full of great info and straight forward too! I would love to read any info thread you'd write junebuggena!

I understand, but using the incorrect terms just continues the confusion. Easter Eggers aren't Ameraucana. And Ameraucana are not Easter Eggers. They are two very different things. Each deserves their own distinction.

Incorrect. Ameraucana are a recognized breed that only lays blue eggs. Hatchery Easter Eggers are a landrace-type that are descended from the original import stock of what used to be called 'Araucana'. They are not crossbreeds. They haven't been bred towards a specific standard, so there is a huge variety in both feather coloring and egg colors. No such breed as Americana.
That's what I said: It's the offspring of any blue egg layer and any brown egg layer. The blue egg layer used is usually an Araucana or an Ameraucana (although any chicken with the blue egg gene can be used)

Which I why I used the spelling Amer I cana. I also added Easter Egger in parentheses. I am also fully aware they are not a breed unto themselves, but a mixture, a "mutt".

I never said nor implied they were Ameraucanas. or Araucanas. I just prefer the name Americana to "Easter Egger" and I'm sure I spell it with the i.

Hi! I'm new to Easter eggers. We just purchased 6 chicks. Not sure how old they are. Can anyone help me determine what gender they are? Thanks :)
