Easter Egger club!

My daughter had been enrolled in private school since kindergarten.  However, she homeschooled herself her senior year because an encephalitic coma (caused by the same virus as the chicken pox and shingles diseases) set her back a few weeks.  She entered a public charter out-of-class program where she checked in with an instructor twice a week to get her assignments, homework, and took her exams just so she could get her high school certificate of completion .  Of course, before this she already had been in college classes since she was 15 so it was easy-peasy for her to do the charter classes.  Her private high school was a real *!#!^!!! about allowing her to join her final senior classmates in the graduation ceremony but since she was already in college classes it was a moot point.  Hey, private schools (even the religious ones) can be just as political and close-mouthed about what goes on in their administrations as the public school cover-ups.  Homeschooling is the ultimate best way to go and there is better socializations and lasting friendships created - families form bonds that last a lifetime.  My friend joined a homeschool academy in her area/district.  The subjects covered in homeschooling have to be state-approved in our state.  The mothers/families that had skills in the state-approved subjects/textbooks used through the academy would sign up to teach small groups of students that would gather to learn these particular subjects.  A parent would study the textbooks and sign up for the academy classes they felt qualified to instruct and gathered the students in homes or churches depending on the number of students studying the particular subject.  Sometimes the ages of students were different depending on their attention span or level of learning/understanding.  They had aquarium trips, tidepool trips, furniture and industrial manufacturer trips, dairy, poultry, and agricultural farm trips, zoos, science, space, art, and historical museum trips, nature or recreational hikes/camping, even amusement park trips, etc.  Each trip was used as fun background for the particular subjects the students would be studying - oceanography, philosophy, agriculture and husbandry, mechanics, science, advanced math, etc.  Outside of these background trips, individual parents would teach their children English, math, and reading skills, foreign language, check on their homework, assist with understanding text assignments, or add their own extended subject matter like car mechanics for the boys and cooking or sewing/crafts for the girls.  Every talent is explored with homeschoolers that crowded public school no longer employs in their curriculum.  Public school teachers really want to teach but they are so indoctrinated with political administrations and confined curriculum or crowded classrooms their hands are tied from teaching their best.   My homeschool friend always had some kind of animal (including chickens, i.e. EEs and various heritage breeds), fish aquariums, insect cages, or reptile aquariums, to teach her children about responsible animal ownership and respect for nature with their own private gardens for planting their favourite vegetation.  Her children have always been the most intelligent respectful citizens I have ever encountered - outside my own kids.  It has been a joy to know them over these past 20 years.  Hope this helps answer some of your questions.  If you have more ??? you can PM me - Smiles.
that is a ton of info to go on! Thank you! We have tons of farm animals and as of a few days ago we now have 2 little aquariums full of tadpoles for " biology" on a 7 year old level. The second is of course because the 3 year old had to have one also!

So maybe my little ones will grow up to be highly intellectual for their age after all their starting bio at 3!

Absolutely! And a lot less chance for getting away with potty mouths, bullying, drugs, or forced injurious sports that public and private schools offer! From Colonial times parents, mothers, were the primer teachers for their children. Some children have a natural affinity for certain talents and drive themselves in studies. Abraham Lincoln devoured every book he get hold of as a kid.

AGREED! My 7 year old has A.D.H.D, anxiety issues, mood disorders and sleep disorders so she has enough going on and the person bullying her was her teacher!!! I would much rather have her home where it is a "safe" learning environment. She was starting to get mean with the 3 year old and I'm positive it was just an outlet from what was going on at school, that was only made really clear when after we pulled her from public school it all stopped! Soooo we are really glad we made this decision and its already made a world of difference.

My DH has a high IQ but as a kid had speech impediment and G.A.D. also. In public school he was put through the mill with CAT Scans, psychiatrists, and all sorts of medical tests. Know what they found? They diagnosed childhood onset arthritis after all that testing! Unfortunately GAD (anxiety) progresses exponentially into adulthood and is something that has to be learned to manage. Drugs stupified his ability to function and the doctor wanted to keep increasing the doses yet did nothing to stop anxiety. Screw that! DH stopped the drugs and took the holistic route to slow his anxiety issues but it will be a lifelong job to keep on top of it. Our friend uses Yoga, anxiety mgmt classes, Eastern philosophy, and martial arts to calm his GAD issues. The potent drugs the medical profession prescribes for GAD issues just don't help an individual function normally on the job or day-to-day living. Another friend was diagnosed Schyzophrenic and definitely HAS to take drugs to manage his severe issues. Behavior modification exercises help GAD, ADHD, or any of the issues under the BiPolar umbrella but it is a lifelong commitment to manage. Decades ago these were reflected as parental mis-management behaviors and teachers were at a loss to understand the syndromes and blamed parents and the child. Homeschool parents are much more disciplined to enforce the necessary behavior modifications routinely to help their child through life and to understand the issue they will most likely face in adulthood. Our homeschool friend had an Aspergers syndrome child yet his IQ is through the roof and has a photographic memory. At the Mayo Clinic they found dietary modifications extremely effective in managing BiPolar behaviors and Autistic syndromes. Some gluten grains, simple carbs, sugars, and many other foods were found to exacerbate behavior. Interesting documentary that I'm at a loss to remember now. I bet chicken eggs and homegrown garden vegetables are a must for a good diet for any of us! I was allergy tested decades ago and found that I was allergic to citrus, milk, many pit fruits, gluten grains, beef, chicken meat but NOT the eggs! Turkey, lamb, goose, and duck was ok too. Chicken meat decades ago was probably injected with growth hormones and antibiotics so I'm not surprised it caused allergies. Meat chickens are raised/fed differently from egg-laying chickens. GL w/your little ones and homeschooling!

its absolutely beautiful! We moved a year ago and I don't even want to go north to visit! Lol we have 15 acres with 2 ponds that have streams and a small waterfall you just don't get that in Michigan!! What part of eastern tn are you moving to?
Wh
who knows. We are planning on no more than 30 - 45 min outside Knoxville. We looked at Dandridge and Kodak but we don't know the first thing about any of it. My husband is military and retires in 4 years and that's the area we want to buy a house. We looked at Maryville too because of schools but there's not really any land like he's looking for.

We live in Kingsport! We just moved to our 10 acres 1.5 years ago! My husband was USMC and deployed with a unit out of Knoxville. This place doesn't have a water source. The old pond dried up who knows how long ago and the cistern is all punched in by tree roots allowed to grow too close. it's the one criteria we didn't get but the house is awesome and still had the barn!

but yes the school is clueless when it comes to any child that doesn't fit the " normal" criteria. My child is normal and we just feel that with everything we've encountered she's better off at home where she's loved and understood, pushed to excel in the right way and not made to feel inferior because some things may take longer for her to grasp! I appreciate everything you've relayed to me thank you soo very much!! We have about 90 Cornish that we are raising as meat birds for the very reason you mentioned!! There are some meds she needs due to all of the things she has going on but we stay away from anything for her anxiety because we love having a little girl not a zombie! We don't need anything extra being pumped into her little body by the food she eats that is supposed to be good for her! We've also found that now that we've moved down here and started a farm we need far less medications and have big hopes of completely being rid of them! Animal therapy has worked miracles for her on so many different levels!
