Easter Egger club!

Has anyone breed giant Easter eggers by breeding blue/black/splash ameraucanas to blue/black/splash jersey giants?? I have both breeds separated and am thinking of crossing by putting favorite blue or splash jersey giant roo on the Am hens this fall. What do y'all think?? Green eggs from nice big birds?

I haven't heard of it but I would like to find out, too. Why don't you experiment and leave a roo in with the big girls for a week and get the eggs from them.

My AMs are only 8 weeks old along with some new JGs so will have to wait till breeding age. My older JGs free range everyday on my 85 acre farm. The AMs are going to be a small flock that stays penned in a large run and coop for safety. So would put a JG roo in with the AM hens vs letting out my AM Roos to free range and having to pen up my huge JG Roos. The JGs fend for themselves pretty good, you should see my huge 16lb black JG roo go after my neighbors dog if he even thinks about looking at his hens. He can hand out a major *** whooping!! Lol.

You JG roo might be to big for a little 3-5lb hen. I would put one of your JG hens in with the AMs and getting eggs off her.

I didn't think about that, good point. I could pick a couple of my favorite JG hens and just add them to the AM pen since can easily tell the eggs apart. Hopefully can get some big girls to not try and boss around the AMs! I'll keep everyone posted when I start the project. I'm excited and wish I could do it now. I've only stuck to pure bloods before, will be fun to see what I get. Hope for modest egg laying of green eggs from friendly large Blue/Black/Spalsh bearded and muffed birds. Wondering what color the legs will be since JG have yellow bottoms? I will have colorful cartons of eggs - blue, green and browns.

Sounds good to me! Keep us posted!

I got a lavender Ameraucana/EE 10 week old roo yesterday! He is super cute and has the fluffiest muff. I'll have to get better pictures with my camera tonight. So excited!

I've got 7 chicks hatched so far. 4 came from blue eggs, 3 from brown. The blue eggs are pure EE, the brown eggs are from Barred Rock and Red Sex. One of the chicks is looking kind of solid black/dk.gray so I'm thinking it may have come from a barred rock egg. The white with gray head will have come from EE egg, as the two brown and black chicks (similar chicks from last hatch with nothing but blue eggs). I'm suspecting the 2 yellow and brown striped chicks are from sex link eggs.

I still have 20 eggs in the incubator that I hope will hatch (it's technically only day 20 today the first 7 came on day 18).

My babies are growing so fast! Almost can't see their "chipmunk" stripes anymore. DH laughs at me cause I spoil them!
