Easter Egger club!

I am posting on behalf of an older friend who does not do computers. (Told her BYC was reason enough but she's not biting!

) She was looking into adding some EE to her young flock and wondering how well they lay. Our research show 3-4 eggs a week but that they don't lay through the winter. Is this most people's experience? She was hoping for better layers but wants those pretty eggs!
My EE hen lays almost every day. The only hen that outlays her is the RIR and that's only because the RIR lays through the winter.

I have a question about breeding and egg color. My Captain Jack Sparrow (EE) has just stated mating with the ladies. Actually, I have only seen him mate with Pickle (EE) so far. She lays really blue eggs. I have no idea what color egg he hatched from. I plan to hatch some of Pickle's eggs once one the girls goes broody (if that ever happens). So, if he hatched out of a brown egg, will his daughters lay green? How does that work?

I too didn't know the egg my roo hatched from (and his father before him) so I don't know what kind of genetics he has contributed to my chicks that I've hatched out this year. The oldest set is 7 weeks old and only one seems to be female. The next set is a day old. It's going to be a while before I see eggs from any girls.
That being said, my understanding is the more pea comb looking the comb is, the more likely there will be blue eggs. If there's mixed comb, pea plus single for example, you increase the change of getting green eggs.

I hope that's true. Jack's comb is pure pea! :)

I LOVE EEs I have a bunch of chicks, but these are my ladies... Mrs. Bossypants Roo - Fleetwood Trio Soothead Butterscotch Orangeblossom Crankybooks Sparrowhawk Nutmeg Young Fleetwood Ostrich - A 5 week old mixed chick, I don't have a lot of white in my flock so the chick is likely a cross between a SLW or Lt. Brahma and our EE roo. I'm hoping for nice patterning. :)
Wow Butterscotch is GORGEOUS!!! I think my girls are going to look like your Sparrowhawk, and Orangeblossom

My girls are growing up! Here are Edith, Mary, and Sybil at almost 11 weeks.

I have three Easter Egger Bantams, who are just over two weeks old. I don't have names for them yet... any suggestions? They are supposed to all be girls, so I was thinking of girl trio names...

Their photo album is here:

I slowly add pictures as I can, but they grow so fast, and it is so hard to get a good picture of them!
