Easter Egger club!

When I can't afford the steel cut oats, the quaker oats are ok, but I do prefer to give my chickens the best whenever possible. They love the oats uncooked, just tossed in the run for them to scratch at. You can also give them whole wheat grain if you can find it.

My chickens really, really love eating sunflower seeds right off the flower head. If you can get a bag of sunflower seeds that are marketed for wild birds they'll have loads of fun scratching for that too. Also, the sunflower seeds are good for egg production. From time to time I'll toss in a hand full of Goat feed - the kind with different grains in it.

My kids found soldier fly larvae in the rabbit droppings and spilt rabbit food under the hutch and they gathered a bunch in a coffee can. You can imaging what the chickens did when those got tossed about the run for them. If you are interested in growing them, they thrive in the spilt rabbit food and shade. Oh, and frogs. My girls will chase each other around when one finds a little frog.
Oo good things to know

"...Robin layed an egg!"

Well, it could have been Robin...

TTYTT, I really don't know which of my April pull - excuse me hens layed it, but she couldn't even wait to get into the nesting box or even the coop, so she dropped it right in the center of the run!

My babies are growing up.

Congratulations on the blue egg! It is exciting and so much fun to see the new ones laying! I got another blue egg today too! My 2nd one! My girl is definitely a girl because I'm just sure the blue egg came from her since my other two EE's are not quite old enough to start laying. This picture is of my new hen that I was just wondering yesterday if she might be a rooster, but I guess she proved today that she is not!

Thanks.I can't say what color it is on your monitor, it's a little paler than RL on mine. In actuality it is the exact color and hue of a lime bean, but a couple of shades darker. And surprisingly large for a first egg.
Very cool - lima green

my girl's first egg was small, but the second eggs was big and had two yolks in it.

AWESOME!!! She looks a lot like my Renegade but her stance reminds my of my Sassy - she is the lead pullet in my flock and even challenges some of the cockerels as if she was one of the guys. Congrats on the blue egg.

I'm honestly not sure they're pretty and I'm quite curious to know myself

I have figured out that they are indeed, Dixie Rainbows... Also known as Pioneers. They are dual purpose birds, but I know little about them otherwise. If anyone knows the egg color/size/frequency I'd love to be informed. We have always joked that these two would be the first to go during an apocolypse bc they are HUGE. They are pets and are very loved no matter their egg production.
