Easter Egger club!

My EE pullet is as mean as a rattlesnake. It's like she's a game hen. She's the smallest one I have at 16 weeks. My three 14 week olds are as big or bigger than her but she shows no mercy if in striking distance. What can I do to chill her out. If I wanted aggressive birds, I'd have gamefowl.]

Separate her for a day or two, in your quarantine area, it took three days to take the mean out of Big Red but she is a sweet lady now, who looks out for my 12 six week old chicks. Seperating them where they can't be seen means they have to reintegrate to the pecking order, it's usually humbling.

I'm sorry about your feisty lady. My 4 didn't get much attention as hatchlings, so they were very unhappy to be touched and especially held. They never pecked aggressively unless I tried to touch them or cornered them. I started picking them up without fear (their meanest peck isn't painful, just startling) holding them until they calm down. I did this every night for a few weeks and now they approach me when I'm outside, they aren't scared and eat from my hand. They still won't jump in my lap but maybe someday.

I can't figure out how to add a picture...

But I have 3 (what I was told at least) Easter Eggers. I am happy to say they payed an egg sometime overnight or early this morning. It looks more of a tan color... Is this common to start with a more of a brown color then change to a blue or is this the color they will always be?

I am still very happy one of my girls is laying :)

Any advice on cleaning the egg or checking it for certain things? Do I need to keep them refrigerated at all times?

Thanks!!

There is an excellent "egg care" article on here. Check it out. Basically (as I understand it) don't wash your eggs, it washes off the "bloom" on the outside which protects the egg. You should be able to store your eggs at room temperature. If however you have an absolute NEED to wash them (some people just can't wrap their heads around not doing it) then you absolutely must refrigerate them immediately! Washed and refriderated eggs only last about 2wks while unwashed and nonrefridgerated eggs last much longer. Here's a discussion on to wash or not to wash.

As for your issue with posting pics, at the top of the box where you are typing your post, there is a square that looks a drawn mountain click on that and follow directions. Once you have uploaded your pic. It will tell you it's embedding it...that is a good thing :) once done hit reply/post and you're all set :)

EEs typically lay green (a true blue egg with brown "paint" on top). If your egg was BROWN, it will most likely stay that way. Unfortunately, not being an established breed, EEs can be a gamble when it comes to egg color.

Here are my three EE's. Three totally different personalities.

Mr. Lucille(Originally thought he was a hen)

Maggie, the sweetest girl in my flock.

Dust bath? Anyone?
