My Easter Egger girls are 6 weeks old today. Not quite fully feathered but getting close. I turned off the brooder light for the first time last night and they seemed to do ok. They were very hungry when I went in to check on them this morning.

Our most timid and standoffish EE, Gertrude McFuzz, a couple nights ago flew up at my daughter, so she put her arms together and just let her land there. Gerty then hopped up on her shoulder, burrowed into her hair and settled down in her hoodie. When we would part her hair to see what she was doing, Gerty would just use her beak to cover herself back up with my daughter's hair.

I forgot to mention Gertrude McFuzz is only around 7 weeks old.

It's like she trying to hide under momma's wing but since mom doesn't have wings, hair will have to do. Mine did the same thing and still try when they're upset or startled even though they're 12-15 weeks old now.

Funny how it works, some of my friendliest when they were tiny are now the biggest fit throwers when I catch them, and the ones that could care less about me when they were little are now as cuddly as they come! And now that they are starting to lay their hormones are really out of whack and they are all a little nicer. Speaking of starting to lay, I got my first EE egg today! I got my first brown egg from a Delaware two days ago and already an EE has joined the bandwagon. Here is my last three days of eggs from my new layers.
